tomleatel
I Have a 4 month old cocker, and his farts can strip the paint off the wall I am feeding him the James Wellbeloved Dry mix. The vet suggested the Hills scientific stuff but had no joy other than paying a fortune Can anyone suggest something i can do, or are Sainsburys to continue selling hundreds of smellies to me to mask the smell? WGD
Is he on a Puppy/Junior mix? He should be at that age, if he's not that could be the problem. There are plenty of alternative dry foods although JWB should be fine, but you could try Chudleys, Skinners, Arden Grange and the list goes on. A dog will generally have more wind and produce more waste when fed on dry food but something like Arden Grange is meat based rather than cereal based and it is the cereals and bulking agents which cause the problems. Could be worth a try. WGD

tomleatel
I'll have a look out for it. He is on the Puppy mix, and it says on the package that there is none of the bad stuff that they put in it to make it taste nice I've also been told that the glands in his bum may also need sorting? Not something that i have ever heard of but may check with the grooming lady as this may be something she deals with Take more than a cork i think Edited October 7, 2008 by tomleatel
Imperfection
Try switching brands-there are lots to choose from with various price tags.I've fed these ones amongst others over the years with excellent results and no more bad wind than normal. Autarky Eukanuba ProPlan Arden Grange Burns Bakers Myself though,i feed my Bullmastiff working dog food as this agrees with him the best.Premium quality food makes him loose weight so he essentially gets the budget working dog stuff and he dont hardly ever ****. Try a different brand of food, and introduce it mixed with his current brand over a week or so. I can't speak for the other brands mentioned above but Arden Grange put weight on my springer and sorted her runny dumps. WGD

Country_est
My lab is the same, Pup has no smell that I can detect. BUT the old BOY is 9 now and he has stunk for years. The vet when asked about HIM said its a MAN thing. Previous Lab was a bitch and she was fine and lived till 14 and fed on the sam thing as the DOG and it was just HIM that smelt. At least you now have an excuse just to let rip when needed and can blame the dog

Though I cant put weight on her at all James
silver_pigeon
Re: your dog's glands...I would be very surprised if your grooming lady braved that...it is usually a Vet's job! Bryn has had the same issue and I've dealt with it myself on several occassions, but had it checked by the Vet once! It's really easy to do...not pleasant at all, but it may help with some of the odour! Have you asked your Vet? Also, the richer the food sometimes is the problem! Puppy food tends to typically be very rich and this is a root of a lot of problems (sometimes if they eat their own poo!) the food is so rich that it repeats on them and sometimes they want to enjoy it twice With Bryn we took him off puppy food early on and put him on a plainer meal mix, this helped with the amazing farts and also the gland issue! All in all the richer the food the harder for them to digest and as a pup, regardless of what labels say, every puppy is different and therefore needs to be fed differently! MC
I fed my springer on eukanuba while he was a pup changing to Dr Johns silver when he was a year old. He doesn't **** very often. But when he does it stinks.
ROB REYNOLDS UK
wind if the vets sells dog food he will try and sell you his at more cost thats how they make there money ..with the money you spend on dog food you could go in to the butchers and buy 1lb of best lean mince or turcky breast from tesco for even less and so much better than that dry **** that dogs been getting .feed your dog lamb ribs once a week meaty ones mind and skip its meal .cost nothing at the butchers .. Wookie
Ted did the same thing when he was on puppy food. Nearly made me throw up once. We started shifting him to a lower protein feed (Chudleys Original) when he got a bit older and it made a world of difference. He doesn't **** that much now, but when he does it is after eating something with lots of protein in. It still smells, but not _that_ bad.
