Wriggler
Had 27 / 50 yesterday. Started ok but the last couple of stands I shot I was shooting into the sun so I tended to rush the first shot and try to hit the second bird before it got into the sun. I should've had more self belief in knowing where they would be.

I havent shot all summer, so it was nice to have a testing set up after a long break Scores not really important. The usual banter and bacon rolls were present. After spending the morning at Braintree today and shooting 440, two hundred at rabbits alone... it appears I too was miles in front..... hopefully job done!!!!!! we'll see Really? How did you manage to keep sane enough to shoot that ammount at the 3 rabbits they have? If you managed to miss the leaping bunny in front you were doing well. I was amazed how much lead it needed. I reckon a lot of rabbits are missed over the top, on a recent lesson I was told to start with the gun very low and come up on to it from underneath. Peter De La Mare
That's £110 worth of clays, plus £60 worth of shells. Hopefully you did learn something from that! Shame all their bunnies are direct crossers, there aren't any quartering, or like my personal nemesis.... going away/quartering bunnies. Mr MC, I shot at the 2 rabbits, 100 each as I don't really count the looper "special" airborne rabbit as one!!!!! It was very boring...but I needed to do it! Anyway....it beats going to work eh? Mr PDLM, re £££££....at this rate I'll be living under the railway arches soon! Edited September 14, 2009 by broken man

Peter De La Mare
Just shoot them straight up the harris, Pete. No lead Well, Dyson must have been using steel Rabbit clays at Hepworth Hall earlier this year as I did that as well as shooting them everywhere else and never broke one. Crossing bunnies I can muller all day long, no problems, but not those mothers....

Raja Clavata
Baz, that's a bit harsh. I've seen a number of newbies mismount on rabbits, this can be remedied by mounting the gun towards the air and then bringing down onto the rabbit line (as suggested starting below the line of the rabbit seems better). Also been suggested that the ambush method can work quite well, personally found it easier on quartering to / away than conventional crossers. Mind you, this is all basic stuf that can't possibly be the cause of issues for such seasoned pros, so don't really know why I'm mentioning it... Wookie
Well, it looks like the holiday did not do much for my scores... Went to my local today and shot a 100 bird sporting. First stand: 4 Second stand: 5 Fourth stand: 2 Not s good start and only a couple of 7s, an 8 and a 9 saved me from further shame. I finished the round with a dismal 54, but had a really good time out catching up with mates and taking the **** a lot. I might sneak out again tomorrow, but I think Mrs. Wookie would kill me if I did. Maybe I ought to spend some time on the rabbits and pigeons... MJN
Yesterday saw my son and I on a simulated game shoot run by Prescott shooting at Postlip hall farm winchcombe Nr Cheltenham. A fantanstic day out, over 500 'birds' each to shoot at and for a 50% + hit rate. The weather, countryside (Cotswold Hills), fellow shooters, the home cooked food, etc. made it a day to remember. If anyone is thinking about doing one, I would recommend sharing a peg, more fun than having you own peg , and saves on the cost. I ache today from the standing and lifting my gun above my head 600 times ! poaching other peoples birds is encouraged , and I won a bottle of Chmapers for hit a special flash clay (the exploding ones). 5 drives during the day of different types of game, the high pheasants were challenging ! (yes that means my average dropped on those) M. Edited September 21, 2009 by MGMan
Peter De La Mare
57/70 Shrove Hill. Started out by shooting the first 4 stands straight, so was on a roll. Then the next two stands had a bird on each that I totally misread and shoot in front of by miles..... gave up at that point and couldn't really care about the last stand missing the first 3 birds because of a huge sulk. A quick slap across the face from my buddy to grow up saw me straight the last 7.
