triscrx
Very sad day but at least he isnt suffering now. Been with me for nearly 14 years so he had a good run anyway. Had Pneumonia and Arthritus in the end, Last Xmas he had a bad spell and we thought that was the end but he stayed with us til now. He had difficulty walking last week and we felt it was only fair to let him go. Spent all day friday morning digging a hole for him in my local woods. Vet came at 1400 and now he is in doggy heaven. Amazing dog couldn't have asked for a more loyal and loving springer. Truly heart broken now though he was a part of the family. Been for a shoot this afternoon and spent some time sat next to his grave. Going to be a while before I stop the habits im used to having him here. Keep walking into the kitchen and go to top up his water bowl etc.. : (

Blackbart
I will be in the same boat in the near future. My springer is 14 next month and at the minute she is fine but i know it wont be long before her age catches up with her.Like yours she is a part of the family and not just a tool and i aint looking forward to your situation now.Gundogs are a bit like pals because of their intelligence,so its a bit like losing a mate and certainly losing a shooting buddy. On the plus side he had a good, long life and a happy one doing what springers do best. Wookie
Unlucky mate, I know exactly how you feel. If Ted's away from the house for any reason the place feels empty. My deepest sympathies to you.

triscrx
Been to visit the site where we buried him a few times now, He is buried on one of my permissions in a wood surrounded by Oak tree's. quite a nice spot to sit and take the pigeons as they roost in the evening, sounds strange but it feels like he is there with me still when I visit. Nice feeling. Still haven't got round to getting rid of his water bowl at home though. Will get round to it when the time is right.
