Cranfield
I have two long standing friends who are named Daniel and Christopher. Never shortened to Dan, Danny, or Chris, always called by their full names and they sound a lot better that way. If we had had any boys, I would have chosen those names. 955i
As we all like the great outdoors on here, why not crib names from the countryside? Could use Rowan, Ash and I'm sure there are more but it's early and I can't think of any My eldest gets ribbed at school because of his name (Samuel Jethro), but he is proud to be named after one of the pioneers of farming and creator of the crop rotation programme and seed drill (or maybe just a very good folk-rock band, I let him decide) By the way, congratulations on the little one Edited March 8, 2009 by 955i
Mrs Sweepy
I would have like to have the name Daniel. For one of my boys. But Sweepy and myself came to agreement that he pick the boys names. And if we had daughters i name them(so i lost out ) Its funny how many people do not use the names they were born with . We have friends who parents gave them one name . because it is a family name . But call them by the different one. My mum was named joy but her dad always called her Suzy or Susan. xxxxSuzy
deeksofdoom
Have had some heated debates with my Mrs. over this. Go for a good Christian name (provided you Christian...... lets not go there ). We got one of these books of baby names it was an American publication and some of the Irish names they had on it were ridiculous like Flannery, Murphy, Grady. If the child ever becomes something in life like a doctor, solicitor the last thing it needs for its first name is a dogs name or someone else's surname. Bombadil
Youths today face many different challenges in comparison to past generations. Why not try calling him Kezza Cop Killah, so he can fit right into a local street gang? Failing that i like Joshua (because it is my name) Russell or Rupert. Zapp
Agree with Kay, all the other names date badly or make you look like a chav (due respect to anyone who has called their daughter Chantelle or your son Blue). Michael, Thomas, James, Michael, Christopher, Alexander, Nicholas, Matthew Not trendy or out there cutting edge, but your son won't hate you for his name which will be timeless and adapatable (they can all go "long" for an office job or "short" if they want to work on a building site). Beat me to it Mung (and Kay). Give the boy a name that wont get him a kicking every day in senoir school and he will thank you. I have two boys, James and Ben. Their names are simple and timeless for a good reason. After all, didnt Zowie Bowie change his name to Duncan becuase he was ashamed of the damn fool name he had been lumbered with as a child? Alas, in James' school class alone there is a Storm, a Kai, and a Flynn. A few more Duncans in the making there! ZB
