Tia, a Springer Spaniel, was found in the town - 200 miles away from home - and her owner has no idea how she got here.
loriusgarrulus
Well worth having done. Friend found his red flatcoat retriever because it was chipped. It went missing from his smallholding while he was out and turned up at a vets 40 miles away 4mths later. Vet was suspicious as it was booked in as a red setter, the new owner couldn't get her to eat properly and she was emaciated. and decided he didn't want a big vets bill so surrendered her fortunatley. Vet scanned her and contacted the registry to find she was reported missing, possibly stolen. The new owner was a lorry driver that went near my mates house, but he claimed he had bought her in a pub, so nothing could be proved. The reason she wasn't eating was because her sister a black flatcoat was still on my mates farm and they had never been apart for 7 years. She soon started eating again once she got home. elmafud
Nice to have a happy ending for once. Heard on the local radio that from 2016 all dogs will legally need to be chipped.

loriusgarrulus
Our old Russell cross tried to teach him to rat and gave up in disgust. He's pretty good at agility though. Just noisy and hyper. Edited November 19, 2014 by loriusgarrulus

rimfire4969
I read the other day that a patent has been filed in the States for a chip with build in gps, and it is still extremely small. The company are saying "missing pets could be a thing of the past". It seems all you would need is a computer or smart phone to pin point where the animal should be. I would pay the extra with in reason for the security of my dogs.
loriusgarrulus
Sounds good. Like the idea of GPS on the dog. Just have to contend with the scrotes who know how to remove them now. Edited November 20, 2014 by loriusgarrulus
rimfire4969
Sounds good. Like the idea of GPS on the dog. With some dogs I have seen beating it might be very helpful to know that your dog has done the next drive already so everyone can finish early. bigbird
That's true. All they need is a chip reader and they could take them out maybe they need an alarm signal if they're removed from the dog's body

windywoody
Makes sense, like the idea of the gps Kevin would have saved me hours back in the summer looking for him up behind yours, went missing five times!!! in pursuit of the ladies ,but thank goodness he was chipped. Foxwit
Found an un chipped dog the other day and handed over to the dog warden. The owner didn't get in touch to thank us for taking it out the road and for ensuring its safety but did bitch and moan that it was going to cost it to get it back! If you value you're animal then chip it!
Blunderbust
Both my boys are chipped, get it done mate you never know. I don't think I would have a dog without it now, indeed is it not soon becoming law?
gsorense
I cant imagine that the GPS chip will be any good as it would have been done already. Problem is battery life (notice how quickly your phone battery drains when GPS is on?) and signal without an aerial.
