been quiet on the pigeons of late they are about but they are going in on standing crops, which i won't shoot in, we had a decent session last sat on laid barley, today i had a ride round just to see how the rape was coming on or if any had been cut, all of it was still standing but days away from being cut with the look of it

i looked at the laid barley we shot last week earlier on found a few knocking about so i thought i would head back to it after seeing no harvested rape i took i slight detour on my way back and came across a wheat stubble we can shoot, very early harvest on this field the wheat was still soft after inspecting the kernels left on the field, birds were flighting in and birds on the deck so watched for 10 mins that's all i needed to decide it was worth setting up on i rang the old fella to say i found a promising situation and that i was going to set up so i did at 1.30pm with just statics and a floater to start

when the old fella joined me 30 mins later i had got through a box of carts and 20 birds down we set the rotary up tweaked the decoys and settled in for the afternoon birds came steady for the next 3 1/2 hrs testing shooting on the wind they were jinking all over the place but some good shooting and about 8 right and lefts between us we called it a day at 5.30pm with birds still flighting but we had a long pack up and things to sort out at home but a good bag to go home with picked 111 and a solitary crow
