  1. its the fee's on eblag that bug me though. you pay to list, then a cut for selling and then paypal ontop. all to eblagers. so IF i do sell on there what will one lose on £500 to them? Phil.
  2. i did see the ad on sportsman but wasnt sure. the zeiss i couldnt find a price to work with. i didnt want to use eblag as they are stealer's, taking listing and final fees. thieving gets.lol.
  3. I have a couple of pairs of binoculars i thinking about selling/swapping. one pair is swarovski slc 8x30wb not the most expensive pair in the catalogue but still very good glasses. i know they are no longer made but all production come to and end i guess. what I'm asking is what sort of money would be about right. I have a pair of Zeiss 10x40b's as well but their are well battered about. showing their age a guess you might say but still a very good image with them. i might just keep these unless someone thinks they might be worth selling as i wouldn't let them go cheap. just for the sake of it if you know what i mean. so if i was to put them and the swaro's up for sale what sort of money we be fair. I dont like asking these sort of questions but i really dont know. thanks for any input you can offer gents. regards Phil.
  4. I had this with mine. i replaced the floor plate/carrier plate and it cured it. i have put 5k of cart though since with no problems. well that was until it rained, they dont cycle will in the rain.lol. clean and dried, no more problems.
  5. the problem i find is it dont take a lot to make a semiauto dirty. i cleaned mine last week. sonic cleaned the trigger mech and all the small parts. i bore scrubbed and oily tooth brush the hard to get bits. then load with WD40 and then blow it all off with the air compressor before light oil as reassembling. went out yesterday and shot 150 cart, the gun looks just the same as it did before i deep cleaned. glad i only do it if it rains.... ... oh ****** it rained yesterday
  6. Oh i dont know about that. only 760 in 4 trips out. one day maybe but happy to still learn about their habits. oh and to dam right my cockers earn the keep, rents not free no days
  7. very very soggy but birds played. write up in 'Take from the field' section. 160 birds. a very happy friend that hasn't shot pigeon in ten years. thats my good deed for the week.
  8. i stand corrected then all the times i have done it i have had birds jinks big time. stand back at the pattern and looking back to the hide i could see a big black eye. changed the hide and all was then well. i only use the brolly on green now. must just be me i guess.
  9. Another day yesterday. we decided that we need the two fields shot as the birds had started to drop in on the far edge with a small number dropping in to where i shot on Monday. after watching for a while i pulled the short straw and ended on the old field with very little hope as the birds wanted to be on the other field. oh well! someone had to do it so i set off to the place i was hoping to be able to pull a few birds off the flight line that runs to the other field. Gutted, there was clearing in the hedge with feathers all around, someone had shot the day before as the feathers were dry. now i was just going to be a scare crow as i knew these birds would jinks as the slightest thing. I went though the motions, set hide with roof, peg in for the dogs as one is still young and learning. put a pattern in of 4 home flocked shells on long springs, 20 dead bird cradle with half shells on them, replacing the shells with real birds if i ever get any. i put up the pinewood rotary with a pair of real birds and i modified flapper on the long pole so it can been seen from over the hedge. got back in the hide and took a seat. didnt even get the gun out the bag as i didnt think it was going to happen. 10 minutes later, still just sat there, a single bird came for a look. then another and then another. none landing but possible shots. out the hide and adjust the tail of the pattern to allow them in a little easier. now back in hide with beretta loaded and watch the birds heading down to the other field when a bird took of out the pattern. ***! where he come from?? few minutes later another bird swung in for a look, it changed its style and was looking to land, up with gun and down it dropped. one in bag. i always try to wait until the birds brain switches from looking as the pattern to looking where to land as its at this time you can do a jig as the bird just doesn't seam to care. a few minutes later an other bird came to the beretta. then another, and another. first box of cartridges gone for 25 birds. bet i couldn't do that again. to dame right, next box of carts gone and only 10 birds.OMG! whats happening..... wind had changed so birds were not playing the same game. out and adjust pattern again and the birds came a little better. i was still to hear a shot from matey over in the other field. not sure what was happening so on the radio to him. bird didnt like him or something he was doing and didnt come close to his pattern. a friend came for a look, hadn't shot pigeon in over 10 years so i told him to come and have a go. put my gun away and let him shoot he was soon back into the swing of things with his old side/side beagle that needed putting down but he shot ok with it so i shouldn't take the pee....should i?.lol. wind changed again so out to sort the pattern and let the dogs do some work.. i use hessian on the floor and then lay the birds out on that and then a wet layer of hessian on top to try and cool birds and stop flies. all in all it turned out to be a good day. matey over the way said he was packing up as the birds didnt want to play with him so with me running out of carts and couldn't be bothered to walk back to the truck to get more i said we would give it a little longer to my friend could have a bit more shooting. then the heavens opened. my god didnt it rain. the dogs hid under my chair and tom did a runner to his car for a water proof coat a bit late as it stopped just as he got back to the hide. lmao. my phone was in my so caller waterproof coat and now its knackered. i couldn't sit as my trousers where stuck to my legs and water had run down the chair and soaked my ****. no good, time to call it a day at 3.30pm it took 1.5 hours to get everything back to the motors and pick all the birds, dogs knackered as well. matey got soaked so cleared off, didnt really come over to me and tom. glad tom came as he was a star in getting the birds back to the car. by 7.30pm i had finished laying the birds out to chill down and got all the wet gear out to dry. long day for me but well worth it for tom, he had a good day and couldn't thank me enough...for me, thats what its about at times, putting smiles on peoples faces. Tom, if you read this ' Your more than welcome' I should start doing guided shooting as this year its been all ton ups.lol. Anyway, how many i hear you ask. well matey over the way, that was on the hot field took 16, not a big bag but still a bit of shooting. i counted 159 chilling and we reckon around 20 lost due to rain masking scent and birds dropping in standing wheat behind us that i will not let the dogs trash. still this area is being kind to us with over 660 birds in 4 trips in 2 weeks. I have photos on my phone but it be wet and doing funny things so not sure if i can get them off. we will see. all the best Phil.
  10. hessian sacking will do you, i use the stuff the builders use on brick work. put a roof on and lighten up your clothing. in a green field i use a fishing brolly but on harvest you will have a dark hole that will spoke the birds. been there to many times, also gets to hot. if your there all day in the middle of the field you will have to think about shot birds as it gets hot out there and the birds will spoil very fast. Again i use wet hessian to form shade to try and cool the birds off
  11. I've seen your shooting so i think you better get a few weeks not days notice  14th should be good.
  12. just bought another K. gone up £8 in 2 months.
  13. I have a workshop that is alarmed and no windows. no access to garden without jumping hedges and fences. FLO would even consider my putting a cabinet in there so i could clean guns or make parts and store in workshop. it had to be in the house because there is more activity in the house. pain in the bum as i cant even leave bullets and primers up there as they want them locked in the house.
  14. .222 loving my tikka T3. cheap to load. hits the spot most of the time. pilot error has let it down on an occasion. not by me i might add. low recoil, shoots more ammo. can even take a rabbit cleanly on a head shot.
  15. Dickies. either camo or green. £15 a pair
  16. look for laid patches and place decoys on the edge of it on high bamboo sticks so they are just about the standing crop. be prepared to lose most of the birds unless your a disciplined shot and only shoot birds that will fall in the laid crop. if in doubt, leave it a couple weeks if the farmers about to combine it, the birds will build up and you will have good shooting.
  17. Jezz they went quick. i been looking for some cheap ones for a month or so. anyone have a couple that are no use to them? thanks Phil.
  18. If you need crows and pigeons let us know so i can hold some back from the game dealer. I will crown them out but need numbers. If someone is heading your way from gloucester then would they be so kind drop the pigeon breasts off. Crows are for NJC as he has cast iron guts. only dates holding me back are:- 27-29/08 (ragley hall show) 11/09 (frampton show) 17-18/09 (midlands fair) 01-02/09 (gatcombe fair)
  19. thanks gents for your input's. last sunday was hot, very hot, the birds wanted to feed and thats what they tried to do. today was not as hot and they had had a lot of lead thrown at them this last 8 days so they dont come as well as one would like. you have a 20 minute spell where you burn your hand on the barrels and then all goes quite for 30 minutes. i tried the remote flapper out today, last time out the birds jinked at it but the remote works well and once the bird locked into the pattern i turned the flapper off. worked well. i have just ordered the parts to make a few so might sell a few cheap tom, they dont swath the rape on any of my permissions but they did spray one of last week for about one more week to go.
  20. Another 158 today on the same field. dogs worked well. gunners shot like a tart. Over 500 since last sunday. photo on the relevant section. Phil.
  21. Another little bag today. !58 picked up with about a dozen lost in standing wheat behind hedge, i will not let the dogs pick them up and risk smashing the crop down. well chuffed with my little pup. 13 months old and getting to where i want her. last week we had out first feather retrieve. and then she would onlt pick up pricked birds. to day there was very few so she started pick fresh shot birds and leaving there ones on sticks. 10 pick from her and well happy. this one field ha given up over 500 birds since last sunday and still more to go at. Phil
  22. Top job Bobby. put some birds on top of the tall peas as well as i have been taking them off the top with the rimfire.lol. I turned the ankle again wednesday. it is kin killing me but painkillers are great.lol. Cirencester show tomorrow?
  23. I use one from aldi's. its not deep but fine for chokes. for brass cleaning i put a drinking glass in the middle with the cleaner fluid, made up of water, white vinegar and two drops of washing liquid. i then top the cleaner up with fresh water. this allows the brass to stand up in a deep enough solution.
  24. Its been one of the best year every for us. the crops on all the farms seam to be in the right rotation plus a couple more farms added to the book. we have had a few smaller bags but since the snow it has been just about 100+ every time we have been out. been very spoilt and i know next year will be hard times once again but at the moment im firing in pain killers and getting out there. i just wish i had kept a record of what where and when but matey says dont beat myself up over it and just get out and enjoy the good time. i think he's right. Phil.
