  3. I shot at Wylye today, with my lady..... Great shooting ground, and the cakes are famous. My wife would love to do this, as she needs a bit of sporting coaching, can't make this one, but another time coach
  4. We went in May, I'm told that you just need to avoid the hurricane season. May have to google that though:)
  5. We did the Paradisus Rio D'Oro earlier this year, and I must say it was stunning. Adults only, all inclusive, fabulous beach with scuba diving and fish within 30 metres. Food was excellent as was the weather. Highly recommended if you want a beach/lazy holiday.
  6. The English Skeet Club is based at Dartford, really friendly bunch, and registered skeet is a good place to start. It will also improve your sporting. Give them a google
  7. Well done Jon - just going to peek in time for the British Open next week
  8. Went broke on Full Tilt a week ago, just my affiliate bonus in there. Now, was that lucky or unlucky
  9. A small take down cabinet screwed to the floor should do the job, especially if you can put it in a wardrobe out of sight.
  10. Gibraltor Barracks definitely the best bet. Nice little sporting ground on the military camp. You have to sign in at the gate, and it's about £15.00 for 70 birds. I work in Hook, so from there, take the A30 towards London and turn right just after Blackbushe Airport, left at the roundabout and the camp is a few hundred yards on the left. Cheers - Bob
  11. Hey Jon I went and bought another gun after you left Bisley today, this Olympic Trap lark is fun. So I'm going to be in the market for a bigger cabinet too, thought about the JFC 7/9 gun version. Maybe we could get a deal if we bought two at the same time? See you for the skeet at Bisley tomorrow. Bob
  12. Thanks for the clarification guys, maybe I won't try that method then.
  13. I know of a number of people who have done it this way: 1. Get a dealer to sell the gun to a US citizen (he can't sell it direct to you) 2. US citizen sells the gun to you and fills in your certificate 3. Declare at the US airport, apparently no problem if the gun is accompanied. You need an export license to post it, but carrying with you is allowed. 4. Declare as secondhand at UK customs, and pay duty vat etc. 5. Job done. A few people in the skeet community do this every year, and I have thought about doing it myself. I've not heard of anyone having a problem, but that doesn't mean to say that it is entirely risk free. I looked long and hard at doing it through a courier with all the paperwork, and unles the dollar gets significantly weaker, then it's not worth it. I have tried (in vain) to get full clarification from the ATF. The rules seem to be contradictory according to which agency you talk to. The US customs don't seem to require any paperwork at all if you are taking a sporting shotgun out of the country.
  14. One of the many problems facing the CPSA is that they only serve the interests of competitive clay shooters. I think that the majority of clay shooters don't shoot registered competitions, happy enough to bowl up to their local shoot a couple of times a month. I think we all know that the shooting sports, and the organisations that represent them, are fragmented into a number of organisations. That makes it very difficult for the shooting community to speak with one voice, whether you are a live quarry shooter, leisure clay shooter,or competitve clay shooter. The challenge for the CPSA is to attract membership from the wider clay shooting community. So in this case, I don't think it's a problem that Mr Fellows doesn't shoot competitive clays. The CPSA is a business, and needs business skills to determine and then operate in it's market. I hope that they are able to develop policies that will attract all clay shooters, and hence give a more powerful and united voice when we see our sport threatened. Some thing that BASC seems to do well albeit mainly from a live quarry point of view.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will follow them all up. Bob
  16. I shoot a lot of skeet, and in the summer much prefer to use a pouch than a skeet vest for my cartridges. There's some great custom pouch makers in the US, but they cost a fortune to import. So just wondered if amongst all the skills available on this forum, if we have any craft leatherworkers who fancied trying their hand at making a custom pouch. Do a search for lonesome charlie to see the sort of thing I'm thinking of.
  17. We've just got back from here http://www.excellence-resorts.com/caribbean-and-mexico-destinations/excellence-punta-cana All I can say is that it's stunning, wall to wall waiters including on the beach and poolside, adults only, 8 restaurants and 12 bars. It's a fantastic place for couples, not a lot to do in the way of activities unless you leave the site, but if you like the beach with cocktails on tap, then very highly recommended. This was our second trip, and I'm sure we'll be off there again in 2011. Good luck
  18. Great shooting Jon - haven't seen you with a smile so wide before. Gotta sort out that low 7 though

  20. I seem to have a foot in both camps here. I am a member of a number of clubs that hold regular informal sporting shoots. We compete against one another internally, but the social aspect is much more important. They're a great bunch of people, and I can't think of many things I would rather be doing on a sunday morning, that enjoying some shooting shared with friends. I have also been shooting skeet competitively for the last 9 months or so. I'm not particularly good, but strive to improve my scores, and maybe one day I'll hit the magic 100/100. I want an organisation that caters for both aspects of my shooting. I want political representation, so that when my sport is threatened, I have an organisation that will defend my chosen pastime. I want them to administer the competition regulations and fixtures. But I also want them to ecourage all clay shooters to join up, so that we as a community can influence government. When I shot live quarry I was a member of WAGBI, then BASC. In terms of representation and speaking up for shooters, I think that BASC leads by a mile. If the CPSA only caters for the competitive shot, then I really don't think it has anywhere to go, the community is just too small. There should be a natural synergy between all people who shoot clays for sport, and we need a single organisation to represent them. Whether thats a merger of BASC and CPSA as previously discussed, or a re-branded CPSA, time will tell. I believe I'm right in saying that the UK is one of the only countries in the UK where insurance is not mandatory. Personally I think that any active SGC holder should have insurance, and in most other countries you have to be a member of a recognised association to get the insurance. Maybe only a matter of time for the UK.

  22. Had a great day out there in July. Did you enjoy the Warren? How did you get on with the rats? We had a club day out there, the warren stand had some rat targets, where a clay is rolled down a ramp just under gravity. It rolls past you about 3 metres out at something less than walking speed. Our club secretary did some stats following the event, where he discovered that our A class shooters couldn't hit them, whilst the C class shooters had by far the greatest success. Great ground and a lot of fun to shoot, we'll be going back next year if not before.
  23. A great day out Jon, first time I've won anything at Sporting. See you at Bisley for the skeet later...
