  1. As I don't have welding gear any more I have bought some heavy duty 22mm tubing to whack down the inside. That and done stainless bolts will have to do. The seat in question has got a year left in it tops, unfortunately they just rot from the inside out.
  2. The reduction in flow from a genuine (not Chinese pod) K&N would be insignificant. David Vizard reckoned in some cases they can up the flow as they 'straighten' the air. I cringe when I see multi thousand pound engine builds running without any filters at all.
  3. I rarely use mine they are mostly used by occasional visitors, so it's been a while since I gave them a good look over. Quite shocking what was lurking under the foam padding of the crossbar.
  4. The only way to discover the limit of your skills it to give it a go.
  5. Same, advice seems to vary over the years, at one time fitting a slightly undersized gasket was one method to achieve this, but as you say common thinking is in/out as quick as possible. It was a whole lifetime ago, but the one thing I remember from the guy I went to college with who did this was he had a massive carb, taken from a kart if remember rightly? One of the challenges I would imagine is this isn't exactly a well trodden path
  6. Yes so you did, apologies for speed reading past that
  7. Not sure if would help any, but is there any way the carb can be made to face forwards?
  8. Come on @Albert 888 your groupies need an update
  9. Nice work. It looks to me like it would benefit from some support behind? I guess you will know once you fire it up if that bracket is a little boingy
  10. @Hornet86 I did what you are doing 2 years ago, so quite recently. If you have a good instructor and listen to what they say you should be fine. I found manoeuvring the bike a little tricky at first but then just practiced when there was down time. On the mod 1 I stupidly put a tyre over the line in the ride in/out of the garage section, I put that wobble down to nerves then was 1km under speed on tthegun on the last stop test. But both minors so still a pass. Mod 2 I actually took a wrong turn due to a misunderstanding, do thought I had failed. From that point on I just ride it out completely relaxed as I thought it was just practice for next time. When I got back he passed me two minors. The last geared bike I rode before doing all that was a fizzy in the late '70s - so if I can do it anyone can. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
  11. I 'made' one for this attempt, just two bits of offcut T&G, about 2' long each and put a g clamp across them half way down. Sits perfectly between your knees and keeps your hands free to drink tea and eat biscuits
  12. I have never used the two needle method before so thanks to @Captain Beaky for the advice and YouTube link - it is actually easier and neater than using the tool I was given.
  13. Having followed the advice after my first attempt at stitching here, I thought I had better have another crack at it. I am glad I did as I would never have been completely happy with it. God bless YouTube, and PW of course
  14. I am always surprised they survive the shock that would be involved with moving them. But where there's a will there's a way.
  15. Blimey, I knew I would need to get a proper electrician to connect it up I wasn't aware of the building regs bit.
  16. Don't lose it, we did have another trophy for low gun, clearly whoever won it was so proud they kept it.
  17. I want to have an external power socket installed in the garden. It only needs to be 15 feet of so away from the house and the consumer unit. What are the rules and regs regarding cable/armouring etc? Just trying to get a feel for how expensive this could before exploring other options, thanks.
  18. I looked into this a few years ago and most advised joining the Florida fishing forum (not sure of its exact name but you will know when you find it, it is huge)
  19. Looking good so far I have always told myself I could do this, the only part that would be a challenge is the letting in for the action. Did you measure the profile of the original and then just rout to that? [p.s. my woodwork teacher always shouted at us for putting planes blades side down on a bench ]
  20. @Walker570 what thickness of leather do you use for the sheath?
  21. After watching the video above I quite like the idea of one of those hole punches, the double needle method looks pretty straight forward to me. I had to get Mrs D to get me started with the Speedy Stitcher it actually looks simpler than that.
  22. OK so I blocked using the knife, soaked the leather then lightly clamped to edge and then let it dry overnight, it is actually held in there pretty securely Once that was I marked out and drilled the holes through. FYI I used a Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl
  23. The point is, there are many forms of discussion, some are more welcome than others
