  1. It’s an 11 year old thread so the link is probably no longer valid. Edit. Here it is
  2. This appeared in my feed this morning, I wish it would stop
  3. In many cases it's a back side covering exercise, same in any profession Of course having it doesn't automatically make you great deer stalker, in same way stalking for years and shooting hundreds of deer doesn't either. A stalker of 40 years + was re-taking his shooting test when I did mine, as he failed it first time round, and you can't put that down to nerves. I have had mine for 15 years and shoot about 60 deer a year, I learn something new every time I go out.
  4. The Pot Kiln for me - some of the best venison I have tasted, locally shot and cooked by people who know what they are doing http://www.potkiln.org/
  5. Ha ha, sounds nice. I have a colleague with a Celica 4x4 turbo asking me the same, he thinks if he gets me drunk enough I will agree to doing it
  6. Did they come and see you, or just phone you Dekers? Edit. OK just read it all you had a visit. Only asking as I had my SGC/FAC renewal through TVP recently and just had phone chat, no medical stuff at all was mentioned. In my case nothing had changed, in terms of address/job/shotguns & rifles so maybe that was why it was so straightforward.
  7. To answer the original question, shooting (stalking only these days) making pretty well anything - knives were the last thing from memory, previously - fishing, pike or trout, building rods, cycling, walking, fixing cars, building cars, more recently building a custom motorcycle. Not sure what to do next, hopefully another motorcycle - who knows.
  8. I will be interested in following this thread, or a new one if it spawns... Firstly as I built (and raced) a Lotus 7 years ago, from the ground up Secondly I can't get this 'make a road going tracker from a CR500/Maico/Husquarna' thing out of my head
  9. Today is crunch day if anyone wants to have a go, and baring accidents it must be the day Sky's hand is forced to make a decision one way or the other.
  10. Have you tried wetting it and leaving a cartridge in there while it dries? That is how knife makers form their sheaths.
  11. It's a requirement for my estate, a friend of mine wanted to join my syndicate and had an interest in learning more so just took the course - now he is in. You could spend time joining in with arguments over why you shouldn't have to do it, or just do it an enjoy the stalking - chances are you will learn something even if you are quite experienced.
  12. Whatever the difference in threads is, it is close, which is probably more dangerous than a complete miss-match. If you get a nut an bolt of the same diameter but with completely different threads, a turn and half is all you can expect to get. That has gone five or six by the looks of it. As the others have said get it checked by someone with thread gauges.
  13. Seems very fair. I have never used them to do any work for me, but I buy loads of stuff there and have never had any issues despite the slagging off they get online. The tools they do these days are really decent quality and backed up with decent guarantee, I like them.

    mackerel

Be interested to hear if anyone is catching in the South West we may have a chance to take a boat out this week.
  15. That's a great painting but almost spooled by the signature, if could have been far lighter and closer to the border. As it is it draws your eye away from subject, which is a shame.
  16. Bit like grass they like some apples much more than others, we have muntjac in the fields we walk our dog in, they come right past a dozen different apple trees to hit one specific type. I keep meaning to take a picture of the apple so it can be ID'd Apparently the mash left over from cider making is what they really go nuts for. Food is so abundant on my patch, hence the size of the deer, baiting up doesn't really work even in winter.
  17. We have too many at the moment and we need to get the numbers down where possible. ‘Mine’ seem to focus on patches of grass alongside blocks of wood. In same way we can’t stop our dog from eating some grass (presumably very sweet) they are doing the same. The roe are hitting the maize but the muntjac don’t seem that interested in it. Not sure if that helps at all. Oh and evenings seem more productive than mornings at the moment.
  18. I am sure they will be there soon. They seem to spread pretty quickly and magically appear in other areas ??
  19. Had a nice early walk round my this morning and shot this chap up to no good. Would have had potential but I am afraid we can’t afford to leave them at the moment.
  20. Shed envy. Even a messy shed is better than no shed ? I often wonder how much more I could achieve with a bit of space and some nice machines to play with, oh well one day...
  21. There was a thread on this not so long ago. You can do as Dougy says or buy a kit from ebay
  22. It may inconvenient getting it all sorted, but if that statement is true I doubt you will end up losing money, long term at least.
  23. @Mungler and the garages conclusion was?
  24. Be interested to hear how this goes, having done Goodwood Revival a couple of times we have talked about Classic Le Mans or Monaco. @mickyh we have been to the MotoGP at Le Mans (coincidentally) but I fancy going back and going again next year but to Mugello as everyone reckons that is 'the one' have you been?
