The HW100 is a cracking rifle mate, I've tried one at a target club and it was a joy to shoot. My only query would be the silencer as I was under the impression they came with a weihrauch silencer as standard? The gun I fired at the club was the quietest airgun i've tried to date but I cant say that would be the case without that silencer. Has this been re-tuned now to shoot .177 ?? from my understanding the power would be lower as a .177

Yes you can legally purchase and possess the rifles and moderators that you have been granted but the condition will be written on your ticket that they can only be used in the presence of <your mentor> unless you are a member of a certified range. I was allowed to use my rifle at my club without my mentor being present. When I enquired about this my FEO told me that certified ranges have rules and regs and there will always be someone there watching over my shoulder and strict health and safety rules would be adhered to.

There is a lot of it happening now concerning a mentor and a lot of replies the same, quite correctly mentioned its not law to have a mentor its each force area's interpretation of the law. Now, while a lot of people will advise you to turn down a mentor as its not law be aware of one thing. They can refuse your application if they feel that you are not suitable for a firearm, ie lack of experience, attitude towards firearms and the use of etc... I would personally advise that if they offer the option of a mentor (and you know of someone willing) accept it, grit your teeth and accept. That way you will still be granted your FAC, you will still be able to shoot and usually they only require a mentoring period of 3 months - it will fly by. It is something thats becoming common practice now and while everytime someone accepts a mentor as a condition of a grant it strengthens the FEO's resolve to make it mandatory, lets face it we are only postponing the inevitable - its gonna happen anyway

Eley subs are the most accurate in my B/A but do tend to jam up slightly because of the wax coating, I did spend the time to try and clean the coating off with hot water on a flannel and they did seem to cycle the 10 I could be bothered doing but i'm not doing that for every round :blink:

Is Clubb669 on here if so, Mad Mark writes in capital letters because he suffered brain damage after a horrific motorbike accident that almost killed him, it took his leg and left him brain damaged instead. Writing in capital letters helps Mark read the text better written on forums. I'm not having a pop at anyone, i'm just putting people in the picture. I use BBS as well as a few others and found Mark (and all his quirks) to be one of the few good guys available on internet forums - all i'm saying is please be a little more understanding as to why he writes the way he does.

I have the S&B 8x56 with the A7 ret (3x thick posts and then down to the thinner x-hairs) also known as No4 ret and I had no problem the other day picking out a squirrel at 170yds that had run up a tree. I too was worried about the crosshairs blotting out rabbits and such but it didn't blot out the squirrel, the 50gr soft point did though :/

I've always skinned pheasants, as when I tried to pluck them the skin came away anyway

Don't know about the colour but check out all the pics of shot foxes... they all seem to go cock-eyed after being shot helluva coincedence

When I came off my mentoring I applied for a variation for 22LR and .222 at the same time and I sent my ticket 1st class recorded on the Monday and I had a phone call on the Friday to tell me it was being posted 1st class business post which I received the following day on the Sat morning = 6 days in total... now thats quick

I was given a mentor for my .17HMR believe it or not and the mentoring condition here in Gwent states that other than an approved range of which you are a member then you need your mentor with you even to zero.
