  1. If we were having a conversation in the local over a pint and you asked me the same question, i would first ask about you experience with fire arms, and hopefully you would understand the reason behind the question. Not knowing your previous experience, i can only assume that you have shot an Air rifle and possibly a shot gun before and have recently decided to venture into the RF/CF area. I maybe wrong. Maybe you have experience, we dont know do we ? As you are aware there is a masive difference between Air rifle pellets and a bullet from a 223 This brings me to my answer, I would first of all go RF whether its 22 or 17, if you have a problem with neigbours or livestock then i would suggest 22LR with a Mod and use subs, if there is not a problem with livestock then 17HMR. After you are use to thinking about what lies behind your targets, by checking back stops then venture into CF. By going for a RF be it 22LR or 17HMR you will have many more days or nights out that you will bring something home, you will shoot more with your RF than you will with a CF. Oh by the way its your round I know there will be loads have other opinions, but i can only speak from experience, and thats a little more that some can do
  2. Why do you want to know how your Emperor's head scored Stu i thought it was the country's best ever trophy
  3. Yes i was, but i was a good boy Just been to see if it was still there :look: must have got out. I can sleep tonight now knowing that the poor little sole will be OK

  5. On the way home from picking the Mrs up, i noticed a young lad in the ditch in his little red Saxo? Fiesta? size car, it wasnt too deep maybe a Foot or Two, not hurt only damaged pride. Now then Mrs asked would i tow him out, well i replied "he was obviously going too fast down a single track bendy road, in very slippery conditions, he can get himself out, and may infact teach him not to drive like a plonker in future" I'm stting at home now having just had my dinner and drinking a cup of Tea wondering how many of you would have towed him out

    Jays

Not allowed to use electronic calls for Birds in The UK The put them on the call cards for photographic purposes only, people buy them who do allot of photography of these type of birds:good:
  7. Yes in that respect it would, i cannot argue, but there are few people who would shoot that amount. The comment i made was more than a hint for a good reason to aquire a FAC if the origanal poster wanted to do so. Having shot a few Hare's (nowere near the amount you shoot)and as previous posters have touched on, to wound a Hare is not a pleasant experience, or any quarry for that matter.

    Jays

Not one for shooting jays around me as there are never that many to cause any bother. Each to there own you may be in an area that they are a problem though.
  9. Bit of a tip for those who bait fox's, Any left over food from our dinners goes in a bag in the freezer, it doesnt matter what it is, I also keep all rabbit guts, skins, heads in the freezer for use. (rabbit bits are in "my" freezer in the shed) I also keep any oil or liquid from tinned fish in a jar for the special occasions Always ready then
  10. A good excuse for applying for FAC it would be more efficient
  11. To be honest you may as well buy a whole one as you will certianly pay top wack for just the crown, we used to charge about the same for a crown as you would have done for the whole bird, due to not being able to do anything with the legs.
  12. It sounds like they are trying to be a bit of a smart bottom, and a pain in one, ask them to define fullbore, as against small bore, or quarter bore, I thought that 22 cal was small bore, up to 6mm, 1/4 bore and anything over 0.30 (7.62) was fullbore. I would of thought that anyone with an open ticket for any CF would be suitable
  13. Go for a Block Build, a little more expensive but long term more secure & less maintenance, also will add more value to the price of the property "IF" you ever want to sell. Plus you wont be resticted to the size that sheds are built in make it as big as you can without planning permision
  14. some people have mentioned Steve Kershaw in this thread with regards to using an adapter, I am sure if Steve was to choose between an adapter or having the rifle cut, threaded and reproofed i am sure 100% what his decision would be. Oh ! i almost forgot my qualifications, English CSE F Art CSE C Metal Work CSE F Sport CSE A Needlework CSE A+

  21. I do 4 on 4 off perm nights 12hr shifts and hate it, its 4 days takenout of your life, i am not fit to do anything but vegitate for about 1.5- 2hrs when i get home in the morning, before i go to bed. Yes i would love to do a normal day job, Its no good for your health either.
  22. If your thinking of going into gamekeeping this will most probably be a good conversation point with the FEO, while your at it i would suggest that if you have land to use a rimfire on put in for your FAC at the same time.(Ask while they are there you have nothing to loose and it may just make your day) I know you allready have your appointment but if you dont mind waiting another few weeks then you will most likley be granted both, assuming you have permission. It will save you some money and will get you on the FAC ladder sooner rather than later. Best of luck and dont worry they are coming to arrest you Oh posted a day too late. allways been abit slow. So i take it it went well, see nothing to worry about
  23. I was the one behind the camara, and to be honest it was rather dark, its not a bad size Boar as far as medals go i would say a tin foil maybe or possibly a brass It was the biggest one shot in our group though, so lets just say it was monstrous i think if you put the 2 i shot together it wouldnt have been any were near the weight of Munglers
  24. now dont be silly, you had your laces tied together, It was definatly 600 ish, no were near 700
