  1. I am looking to buy a 375 h&h before too long and was looking at one of the sako 85's but the ejection issues are a bit of a worry. Has anyone on here had any problems? Maybe it's an old issue and it has been ironed out now.
  2. A chicken and a leg of Shetland lamb with all the trimmings for us. Snipe poppers along with the pigs in blankets, they were a big hit last year.
  3. I have transferred 3 guns in the last 2 months. All I have done is emailed them with all the info and there hasn't been any issues. I was the same as the OP where the last time I transferred a shotgun it was done with a paper form.
  4. I have been using the deerhunter pro gamekeeper this season and it hasn't let me down. There has been 3 nights I have been out in serious rain and came home dry. It's a smart looking jacket as well.
  5. Excellent read. I had to shoot last season with no dog and it's just not the same. I love watching a good dog doing what it was bred for.
  6. I have a T-bolt that really does not like winchester ammo, 4-5 inchesgroup at 100 whereas the hornady ammo is around about 1 - 1 1/2 inches sometimes better on a good day.
  7. After a couple of days of heavy rain, a favourite spot of mine had flooded so I headed out with the gun, the hound and a few decoys. After a couple of hours I had 2 mallard and a wigeon in the bag so I headed home a happy chap.
  8. All the synthetic stocked SX3's and SX4's I have held have been too low for me but the wooden stocked ones have been fine. Might be something to look at.
  9. I hang all the fowl I shoot in a chill. I dont think it makes much difference to hang fowl longer but it is good to be able to leave it hanging and know it's not going bad. When I come off shift I might be out 2 or 3 days in a row then I can pluck everything in one night and know it will be fine.
  10. Ok just checking. I keep all my 3" hulls, someone usually takes them for reloading 👍
  11. Anyone know why you cant reload steel shot hulls? Just noticed this on the gamebore mammoth box.
  12. Good point but both gun shops I was in in Namibia had 404 Jeffery ammo.
  13. Interesting thread. I am looking to apply for something bigger to take to Africa along with my 30-06. My next trip, if I am spared, I hope to shoot an Eland then eventually a Buffalo. 375H&H is the obvious choice but I really want a 404 Jeffery, so I am saving the penny's and looking for a nice old 404 or failing that have one built.
  14. Yes it has a removable hood. I am not a huge fan of hoods but this one is pretty good.
  15. Just bought a deerhunter pro gamekeeper for £165 and as usual I am impressed with deerhunter. I was out on the marsh in the pouring rain 2 nights running and came home dry and warm 👍
  16. Jack Pyke cartridge belt. Been worn twice, as new. Good for a youngster or someone starting out. A donation to help for heroes will do me.
  17. Just found a bag of RC50 empties in the gun room, 86 of them. Free to anyone willing to pay the postage. Heading for the bin otherwise.
  18. This is what I use for a back stop for my rifle shooting. I have 3 set up at different places, I can shoot from any side, just move the target. If there is livestock at one I can just use another one. It's not portable by any means but works 100%.
  19. This is my 26th season and I still cant sleep the night before the 1st. I was out in the morning and bagged 3 greylags, could have shot more but I didn't want to be dropping them into the standing crop they were flighting in over. At night I took my eldest son and his cousin out for a night flight. They were both out a few times last year with me but neither managed to bag anything. We had a lot of geese come in and after a few shots they managed to bag a goose each. Both of them delighted with their first goose, very proud of them both. I can see my ammo bill going up a bit from now on though.

    Snipe

Met this guy while walking the dogs tonight. Beautiful birds, not very often you get to see them up close but I managed to get within 3 or 4 feet.
  21. I haven't found a harder hitting cartridge than the RC50 0's.
