  1. took the dog for a quick walk today after he was stuck indoors most of yestersday while i stuffed my face and slept . the rabbits sat well and max gave me a few good points, he likes shooting rabbits better than wildfowling, more action usually. first rabbits of 2012
  2. beautifull rifle, lovely wood :good:
  3. 1/4 and 1/2 can do most of the sporting i shoot. the only other choke i might use is skeet :good:
  4. well done . we still have some pinks here in shetland which is unusual this time of year, i had some over me the other day but we also have quite a few lesser white fronts in and they have been all mixed together so i didn't fire just in case.
  5. i am not convinced that they are killable
  6. just a quick pic from my last flight of the year. hope next year the fowl breed like rabbits and my marksmanship gets no worse . happy new year to you all :good:
  7. prologic do jackets which are camo or green/khaki, brilliant jackets.
  8. i have bought 2 leupold scopes on ebay and they were a lot cheaper than anywhere else. sometimes items sell for too much and other times you can get real bargains. one of the scopes i got i found by searching "scopes" instead of "leupold scopes", no one else seemed to see it or bid on it and i dont think the owner knew how good a scope it was, and it was a proper leupold not a cheap copy. just keep watching
  9. sounds like you have had a great morning, well done :good: . great pics too.
  10. i had another great morning with my friend and his big bores. this morning he was using his tolley 8 bore again and he had me using his purdey double 10 bore. what a privelage to use such a lovely gun. the geese did not play ball as well as the last morning we were out, however i did end up with two greylags. one was a lovely shot at geese passing tail to wind a fair bit up quickly followed by a spectacular miss with both barrels at a goose 30 yards out almost motionless in the wind, ha ha. for those of you interested the purdey was made in 1897 with steel barrels and 2 7\8" chambers. she went back to purdey in 1903 to be beautifully engraved (sorry you cant see the engraving in the photos). in 2006 she was re chambered and reproofed for 3 1\2" shells. for 114 years old the gun is in beautifull condition and comes up better than my browning. :good:
  11. there is a zabala 3 1\2" side by side on guntrader for £350. it says in the info that if you pull the back trigger first it will put off both barrels for maximum effect :o .i was out shooting geese with a friend who has this same gun and the pulled the back trigger first by mistake, talk about maximum effect, two 3 1\2" 2 1\4oz lead shells put him on his back and the trigger guard dug a piece out of his finger . the next move he made was to put the gun to a gunsmith and have it sorted so it couldnt happen again
  12. i would not bother with fud decoys for use on water, not good in the wind and the last time i used fuds on water they sank during a snowy shower. you could look at tidepool.co.uk and there is a guy on the bay called thebillcollector118 who is selling ghg teal and wigeon decoys. i use teal decoys to bulk up my spread as they are small and lighter to carry
  13. i did my turkey the way he said to and it was perfect, my one was heavier than 12lbs so it took a bit longer but the meat was juicy and the rolled legs were taaaaaasty. :good:
  14. browning A-bolt or the X-bolt :good:
  15. my cz 17HMR shot quite a bit low with the mod on when zeroed without. cant remember how much, it was a while ago. i remember i couldnt use it on and off with the same zero.
  16. try this, my family love it. sometimes what i do is soak the breasts in milk overnight and it draws the blood out and is less livery/gamey AISTERS GOOSE RECIPE. 17. it is the cases that alan myers was selling, £2 each :o
  18. the 8 is a tolley and the 4 is an F T Baker, glasshouse street, london. it has 4" chambers and takes a 4oz load of AAA or BB
  19. the 4 bore is a shoulder punt gun. the breach has holes in the sides where gimbels could be put in to hang the gun in.
  20. the owner of the gun shot at geese getting up out of a park and he hit one in another bunch behind the ones he fired at, it fell dead and he paced it out at 150 yards. i would not fire at geese at that range but it just shows how far away it can kill.
  21. i could act tough and say no, never felt a thing, but honestly i was on my back 4 or 5 times with the b####r . its not as bad as you would expect, the weight of it saps up the punch, its more of a big push.
  22. two seasons ago i got under a flight of geese with the 4 and i got 9, all the birds were the same, 70-80 yards up.
