  1. Would that be "willie" lane? Its mental round there, only go in the 4x4 in those parts!
  2. Got the rear coupling done and splitter rough fitted, got to do some real work now so no playtime till the weekend.
  3. More to the point, you got a christmas card from screwfix? I didnt get one and i spend loads in there!
  4. Just sitting down by the back window and that really bright star is out again so googled it and apparently its venus just below the moon to the right, very pretty but my little toy telescope cannot really pick anything out!
  5. I fancy a old hit and miss but too many other projects at the moment..... Could make a scale grey fergy with one. There are allways a few at agricultural auctions in various states so might be worth a look if theres a auction near you.
  6. I give in to peer pressure! http://www.freeads.co.uk/uk/buy__sell/leisure__hobbies/hunting__sporting_equipment/hunting__sporting_accessories/gun_accessories/32409156/shotgun-cartridges-/view
  7. There is a guy on freeads that is selling off a load of these, its too far down south for me but if anybody wants to re live the glory of them..... Dont know if im allowed to link the ad? They look in really good nick too!
  8. Can they not class them as crime weapons as they are now illegal without a licence and then sell them off on the proceeds of crime law thing? It was in the news about some coppers from one of the islands up north getting busted selling airguns that were handed in.
  9. Got a few boxes of the winnies left, seem to keep acquiring them!
  10. Only had a few hours to work on this but got a bonnet roughly made and made up some links whilst waiting for some track rod ends to be delivered and it now has forwards and reverse by foot pedal. Took it for a test drive and it all works as it should. Going to have to wait for parts before I can do much more, got hoses, track rods for steering and drive coming and still waiting for the correct steering box to arrive. Might finish the log splitter and backhoe tomorrow.
  11. Screwfix normally have them cheap, i have installed a fair few and the last one was faulty out of the box so i would buy from a shop incase anything is faulty.
  12. Air cooled, trying to learn the right way to weld and just about getting there! Never been taught just picked it up as i went along.
  13. Right then today was a bit less fruitful than I wanted to be but its getting there! Mostly forgot that I had not actually mounted the engine down and other annoying bits like that but the major stuff is done and there is tempory steering as the box I want to use on this has not arrived yet. It drives and all I can say is that it was well worth spending a day making sure the drivetrain lined up and was tight as it feels like a totally different beast now. Tomorrow brings more hydraulic stuff and a tempory seat, I would like one of those old style cast iron seats but they seem to be a collectors thing now which is a shame but one will turn up.
  14. The final stage was to get rid of the power steering pump for a proper hydraulic pump and a grader bucket, it now was the size of a bus and weighed a ton, would dig up half the garden in one scoop and needed 120kg just in front weights to stop it tipping over. So now comes the next stage, make it smaller and build attachments like a splitter that fits on the back as well as a backhoe and for kicks a snow plough. Will post more pictures tomorrow once its light.
  15. This is where things start geting silly, i picked up some motors off a old grass cutter so the next stage came, independent controlled wheel motors! To top it off the steering rack off a ride on mower and quad front wheels. Oh and a office chair....
  16. So it evolves to have wheels and a engine, belt driven and twice the power! And even a video of it in action.
  17. Allright lets go back to the beginning, mk1 digger was a answer to my need for something to dig holes in the garden and it was great but did not move very well. It was powered by a electric motor and power steering pump.
  18. A little teaser of how it was by the end of the day, chassis built and engine mounted. Hydraulics to go in tomorrow and it will be mostly built by the end of the weekend!
  19. I dont need one or really have the time to build one but i stumbled across a image on the net of a guy who had built his own mini tractor and i just had to get involved! So with some time off work this week I have started on the build, so far the only things to buy is the steering box and a seat, i have most of the other parts from my digger build that is no longer needed so if anyone cares here we go.
  20. Alot of hydraulic pumps are not designed with bearings to take a side pulley load. And they scream under peak load!
  21. It depends more on what the shaft type is. If you can get one with the right shaft and just buy a coupler it will save alot of grief trust me! I have done quite a bit of bodging with hydraulics. I ran a splitter for a while with a power steering pump but it did kill it eventually.
  22. Try the pro piston, those things are insane at close ranges, dirty as hell though!
  23. If you want to do it on the cheap buy a milk pan, drill a 0.6mm hole in the botton of the side and put a wood ramp into a bowl of hot water. Job done.....kind of!
