Lets hope they have got it under control quicker this time. The trouble is that it isnt just passed on at markets, any cars, lorries or people who have been in the infected area can carry it.I have worked in the meat trade for over 20yrs now and this outbreak if as bad as the last one could break the british meat bussiness.Digger you say 'may the devil take the vermin who slaughter in the name of the goverment'.I am registered with defra,if there is a outbreak in my area i will be slaughtering infected animals. It isn't a nice job but it has to be done. All i will say is if people have to go near livestock farms use a bit of common sense.Keep well away from animals and try not to go from one farm to another without disenfecting vehicles.
  5. Frank,as you can see by my member no and date i joined i have been on pigeon watch a while now,i don't post a great deal but look in most days.I enjoy reading your posts about shooting trips you have had and looking at your pictures they are allways well presented.DON'T give in to the red tape brigade that is what they want. When you read your posts you can see you have a passion for shooting and the ways of the countryside. For the sake of filling a form out and ticking the right boxes you can carry on shooting and hunting.Instead of giving in to them introduce a friend to the world of shooting and make even more paper work for them to sort out.
  6. A very good friend of mine is a target shooter his web site address is www.ericsettle.co.uk.Hope you find something of interest
  7. There's enough there to start a army, could you give us a list of what calibre, make etc they are.
  8. Thanks mate had a great day
  9. Goldfish,i too am a slaughterman have done it for the last 20yrs.In my opinion we owe the animal a bit of respect so stick it and bleed it as quickly and humanely as possible.Once it is dead then deal with the dressing of the carcass
  10. Well done,i sent my fac in for renewal had .22rf and 243 applied for a 17hmr and got it granted. My fao said he wouldnt grant it for fox as he felt the gun wasn't up to it
  11. I personaly would hang it up by the hind legs, hold one of the front legs and insert a sharp pointed knife just under the sternham( spelling ) pushing up into the chest cavity. Then draw the knife down cutting approx a 2-3 inch hole. The animal should be bled out within 2-3 mins.If you cut the arterys across the throat the blood will congeal and block the wound,by cutting them long ways they will bleed a lot better.
  12. I have a wife in a million, she tells me to go shooting or fishing. She says it's a waste of money all that gear just sitting there costing loads and not using it.

  14. NTTF,your description sounds like a few birds i've known when i've had my beer goggles on
  15. Give them enough rope to hang themselves, doesn't sound like you have got to wait long for them to be hung.I had a similar problem just make it clear to the farmer it wasn't you,he will work it out for himself who is to blame
  16. Nice shooting and nice pics tommy.Haven't seen any pics from you for a while, keep them coming
  17. While i was shooting today a mate said he had a side by side he was going to take to the fao to get destroyed as it was in bad condition. After a chat i said i would take it off him.I can't take it yet my cert has gone for renewal. It is a laurona side lock ejector the stock needs a bit of work and tlc,the main problem is the barrels are pitted.Other than that it isnt that bad.does anyone know how much it would cost to have the barrels sorted
  18. Very sad news,it was a pleasure reading konings posts R.I.P

I drive a frontera as well,it do's every thing i want it to.Andy 75,i see you have fitted lights to the roof of yours, how did you do that. All the light bars i look at need a gutter to fit them
  20. Worked as a slaughterman for the last 20yrs.Before that worked on smithfield market for a game dealer

    TV tonight

I'm just about to watch it,had to record it to late for me.I work in one of the biggest pig slaughterhouses in the country, believe me the animals are treated with great respect. There is a vet present all the time we are killing. It is done quickly and humanly. When we have people look round after the first initial shock they are impressed with what they see
  22. A word of advice lads, don't let pete (big bloke) the owner see you buying cartridges off each other.I did it one day while i was there with a mate and he did his nut.
  23. I use my .243 for foxes and deer. The reason im after another is for the long range vermin crows, rabbits etc. After reading reports and seeing what my mates 17hmr is like i think this will fit the gap.Although i might take a look at the .222
  24. Thats a interesting read thanks steve,at the moment i shoot .22rf and .243 .Im after a rifle that will be used for vermin control mainly,i think the 17hmr will be just the job
