Trouble is that I'm inexperienced with shotguns so don't really know what I want/need. I'm still developing a style, it changes on a pretty much weekly basis! It's one of the reasons that I'm looking at cheaper guns, I can't see the point of spending bucks on something that won't fit properly once I do start to find a consistent style. I'm just trying to find a sensible, middle of the road gun that won't put me at a disadvantage one way or another. I'm currently using a friends Beretta, but it's obviously short in the stock for me and is therefore creating issues with consistent mount, but other than shouldering it and seeing how it sits and feels I'm at the mercy of the 'experts'.

I have the same problem at my main permission in Partridge Green, they are really skittish despite not being shot at for several years! So long as I keep quiet, I can normally start to see more action about 20 minutes after knocking one over, if I don't keep quiet I could be there all night! It's open fields with tidy hedgerows so I stand almost no chance of stalking up to them either, so I have to spook them, hide up and then wait for them to reappear.

As it says in the title really. I'm looking for a shotgun primarily for breaking clays but with the remote possibility that it may be called into action for a bit of wildfowling. I've been advised by a seasoned shooter to look for 30" barrels for the clays, however, I'm unsure as to why this is and what the potential drawbacks (if any) are. I can't imagine that 2" would make that much difference either way for either use? Feel free to put me right, but please edumacate me as to why.

I'm fairly sure it was a tongue in cheek comment before people realised it was a genuine misssing dog...

Well, my first impressions of a Game Show, the CLA today...good day out as far as things for all the family and the arena shows were fun. No real bargains, went looking for a few things (including a shotgun) and didn't really find what I was looking for bar one jacket that I think was a pretty good buy. I had looked at guns in a couple of shops prior to going, and I found them again at the show where thay had been marked up and then 'discounted' back to what I'd seen them for sale at in the shops! It was overall enjoyable...but bloody expensive. It was much the same as any trade show now. A lot of sellers, but no real bargains and steep entrance costs etc....I'll not be hurrying back to be honest.

LOL! Impossible it may be, but I'm no magician. It is at 9x mag, and zeroed at 32 yds... ...I may just recheck a third time becuase logic states the 8 yarder is the anomaly. FalconFN, I've downloaded it, just need to find 10 minutes now to use it!

Good link, ta. Surely if the rifling or silencer was affecting the trajectory it would do so at all distances and get worse with distance ( ie require more compensation)? I also don't understand why I need hold over a 8 yds, then hold under at 15 and 20?

Wildfowling in Chichester Harbour, West Sussex.

To be honest with you, currently, my main reason is I'm waiting to get paid! I'm well overdue payment on a decent size job and it's non-appearnace is making life a little awkward right now. I do intend joining just as soon as I resolve the problem. -
Fairly atypically, it arrived this morning!!! Yay So, for anyone else in Sussex in the same boat, it's actually been 9.5 weeks from visit.

I have a MCT Cobra 3-9 x 40 mil-dot scope. I have been on the plinking range sorting out my hold over/under etc...and it doesn't seem logical. I seem to need a small amount of windage on the closer ranges. Odder still, I need hold over at 8 yds, then hold under at 15 and 20 then hold over as expected at range. Hold over/under as follows; 8 yds - 0.8 (of a mil) over and 0.2 right(windage) 15 yds - 0.5 under and 0.1 right 20 yds - 0.2 under and 0.2 left 25 & 30 yds - dead on 35 yds 0.2 over no windage 40 yds 0.5 over -"- 45 yds 0.8 over -"- It then continues evenly out to 1.2 dot over at 60 yds with no windage required I consider acceptable groupings to be pellet on pellet to 20 yds, within a 5p area at 20-35 and within a 10p size at 40-60, pushing it at 60 yds though and a 1.5 " group I would consider to be 'good'. While I can achieve consistent accuracy with these holds, I don't understand why I have the variation, the magnification remains constant, the only variable would be the focussing. I do tend to refocus as required. Thoughts please.

Improving Accuracy "Off The Bipod"!

Nice litle vid that, and I suspect it's equally valid to me with an air rifle even if just to provide a 'stable platform' and help prevent that slight wavering that can occur from a less than comfortable shoting position. -
Probably not if it's HFT gear.

The S400's are accurate over longer ranges too, I popped a bunny last night with my .177, it was raining and I estimated the range at between 40 and 45 yds, 45 is my outer limit. I fired and it went straight down, clean brain shot. When I recovered it I discovered it was quite a bit further than I thought...I measured it out at 62 yards!!! Obviously not to be recommended, and to be honest if I'd realised I'd never have attempted it, but, it goes to show how flat and true these guns fire, it can only have dropped a few mm off aim to still hit the brain. I don't believe my Logun would have been that accurate, and to be honest, the only time I can see me changing it would be for a 410 or the new 510. My next purchase is going to be a rangefinder, I am still a little shocked that my ranging was that far out just due to the rain!

I would mention the caution...it WILL be on their paperwork, and just explain that you didn't put it down for the reason you've stated. I could be wrong, but I thought the cabinet needed to be on an external wall? Worth checking maybe. I also fited a bedroom door lock, but was told it wasn't necessary. That and the alarm though can only enhance rather than damage your prosepects. -
Great! I mean, it's not like I'm wanting to buy a shotgun or anything and get out there!!! Apparently patience is a virtue!

Air Arms have a rock solid reputation, Logun have a poor rep in general....there's a good reason for that. I had an S16 MkII, hated it! Can't comment on the Axsor, swore I'd never have another Logun.

I'll take it mate. PM me details of how you'd like payment. Thanks.

Direct Line have been very good for me, two dogs and a cat costs me just under £40/month. Have made several claims over the last 4 years, never a problem.
