Should a brand new shotgun be cleaned before use?
-Mongrel- replied to hwr's topic in Guns & Equipment
It 'should' have been cleaned and lubed by the dealer pre sale. However, if not as someone already said it will be covered in packing grease. If in doubt, personally, I'd clean and relube it. -
Fenboy, what he's saying is that the WCA states that you cannot use a semi automatic gun on any bird, it doesn't mention capacity at all. However, on the General Licence it then clarifies that you can actually use a 2+1 but nothing FAC.
-
Ah right, thought you were saying that because the WCA states no semi autos that was it regardless of the GL! Now I see that I misunderstood.
-
Well, no, not really actually. The actual situation is that It is an offence to shoot wildfowl or game with a self-loading shot gun having a magazine capacity of more than two cartridges. MAGAZINE CAPACITY. Therefore two in the magazine and one in the chamber is fine, as per all SGC semi auto shotguns.

Indeed. You have PM PigeonMan with regard to this.

smallest piece of land for a half day walk round
-Mongrel- replied to dcliff's topic in Stalking & Game Shooting
Taken from the BASC website, while not the relevant section of law, it's good enough for me... ...only do so if you have permission to drop shot over the land on the other side. To fire a bullet or shot onto land that you have no right to shoot into or over is ‘constructive trespass’. Whilst this is a civil matter BASC strongly advises not to do this. -
You and me both! Less than £100/day is a steal as far as I'm concerned.

Where are you getting a 1050x450 cylinder for less than £180 inc VAT? ...and to be fair, it was a days work, for which a couple of hundred quid is not unreasonable.
-
Fair enough, can't ask for more than that. Certainly cheap enough.
-
Ah, sorry, thought I'd read that it was mains fed tank which are over 600 quid to buy. That said, that's still a bloody good price to replace a copper cylinder, Screwfix (which means it will be the cheapest of the cheap) show the cylinder at £230, add on a new immersion and stat which I would normally change unless it was only a few months old (or you are in a very soft water area), inhibitor for the heating system which will be drained to change an indirect cylinder and it seems too good to be true to be honest, but, if you are happy with them....
-
Is it on the pipe, joint or the tank itself? If it's a compression joint it may well tighten and stop. If it's a soldered joint then it's a drain down and remake the joint, usually a new fitting soldered on. If it's the tank the units probably scrap and replaced. First two are an hour maybe two hours labour. Option 3 is a grand or more.

Where? I thought unemployment was running at about 7.5%, add to that the disabled and unwilling, I think you'd still struggle to make 25%.

I have a small oil filled tube heater that sits under my 6 gun cabinet, only 60w and thermostatically controlled, so not burning loads but just keeps the chill out of the cabinet and it's been dry ever since. 15 quid from Toolstation IIRC.
-
It may well do, gives me start areas at least!

It was bit more than just suspecting now wasn't it? They KNEW he had collected the gun, so it was known rather than suspected that he had a gun in the car. If I was pointing a gun at him and he made a sudden move my suspicion would be that he was about to try and shoot me and I guess I'd be inclined to eliminate that threat.

My Discovery 1 is leaking...badly! It's a water leak rather than the usual oil ones, and it appears that it may well be at high level, either through the safari or rear side window seals, I suspect the windscreen rubbers may be letting by too, is this common? Any other probable issues, main problem is permanently damp carpets, now smelling a bit musty! Oh, no sunroof so unlikely to be that!

So all the above statement actually shows, is that they had SOME low level intelligence (but quite likely some much better intel), and that Duggan had been careful, in as much as he hadn't left them enough evidence or witnesses or grasses to nick him...yet. None of the above makes him any less a wannabe gangsta and quite likely on his way to shoot someone. It's also pretty much beyond doubt that he'd had a gun in the seconds before his stop/shooting, unless the firearms copper had seen him throw it, how would he know it wasn't still in his possession?
-
Do yo want it? If not, why the grief? If so, make an offer?
-
Exactly this. If he's believed to be armed and he moves too fast in the wrong way, they're going to pull the trigger before he gets the chance...and I make them right.
-
So, they guy was a crack cocaine dealer who habitually carried an illegal handgun and ended up being shot by a policeman who would know that he was likely to be armed. Forgive me if I don't shed a tear.

Now now Mat, be nice. No my friend, the RSPB et al via the Breeding Bird Survey. The BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is the main scheme for monitoring the population changes of the UK’s common breeding birds. http://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/bbs Populations up 7% in the last survey year and 40% over the last 10 years.
