  1. Ok, a small concession to your way of thinking. My two local grounds both have enclosed stands. As such, if a semi auto spits it sideways it either hits the wall or goes out of the door. Most of them land within the stands perimeter, still doesn't get them picking them up though! I accept that if it's twenty feet away it may be a bit excessive to expect them to all be picked, still wouldn't hurt to see a few being collected as they walk on through, plenty of bins around.
  2. Ah, right. So you can go and spend all the time and effort clearing a field up and redressing the hedge, but can't pick a few empties up at a clay ground. If they are beyond safe reach, nobody would you expect you to collect them, otherwise, when practical I'd pick up as many as posible. Mag stick is a great gadget. That's the nail firmly struck on the head.
  3. Been there, done that. Literally! A couple of lessons and a conscious effort to stop worrying about the scores put me back on track eventually. I stopped asking and told my buddies not to bother telling me what my score was until we were back in the clubhouse and on the coffees! My son who also shoots once a month if that also regularly out shoots me! Young eyes and great hand/eye co-ordination mate, can't beat that!
  4. If it's not a safe shot, don't pull the trigger, even a body shot can be missed.Only you can decide if its safe of course.
  5. So when sat in your hide, do you (or your figurative good ol' boy) pick your empties up then or leave them for a farmhand to collect next time he's passing? It does happen with a few break barrel owners, BUT in my experience it is primarily S/A's that mostly leave them scattered. Last time out I watched a squad of 5 that must surely have been sponsored by Beretta, all with similar vests and S/A guns, (not that the manufacturer's relevant, but I'll bet they were from Essex ) all 5 sprayed carts forwards, sideways and even backward on a driven bird...not one picked up. 50 hulls on the floor at every stand. I'd have banned them if it was my ground.
  6. I am right handed, and my hand eye co-ordination is still very much right hand biased, trying to hit a ball with a racquet in my left hand is very difficult and completely unnatural. I have no desire to learn how to shoot again. I still have full peripheral vision, the only part blocked in normal sight is overhead and I don't feel it contributes significantly to the birds I miss or don't see.
  7. Personally I bin them and always have, however there are a few at Northall CPC who don't bother, of those the S/A seems the gun of choice. IMO if you use a S/A you need a mag stick BUT, I've watched the staff witnessing the hull scattering and abandonment without saying a word. If the ground doesn't pull them up over it then they won't change will they?
  8. It's not fleabay mate, you need a stated price. Edit: As Mr Smith has pointed out already
  9. Thanks ! To be honest, it's not a problem. I have found a solution that works for me. I didn't like closing/dimming one eye just prior to shooting as the sight picture suddenly altered and I had to readjust, almost inevitably missing. If I forget my shooting glasses I'm a bit stuffed but tend to have a roll of scotch tape in the gun slip pocket and most grounds sell cheapy glasses. Bit more of a problem in the field...but I leave a clear pair in the truck all the time now so worst case scenario is a trudge back to the truck. That was a lesson learned the hard way!
  10. Maybe...three years in and mine hasn't BUT, I've since had an eye test and found my right eye is now slightly weaker than my left, I believe this is the cause of my dominance change. My brain recognises the left is better and defaults to the 'best' picture. 20 months of wearing contacts and I'm still mid to left eye dominant, if I try to shoot a pistol with both eyes open I see two barrel sights. Generally I see mid but... ...initially when my dominance started to shift from right dominant I found that when tired I could suddenly and without realising, go fully left eye dominant and that could happen in the middle of a round.
  11. You'll always get some fling, indeed I'd be concerned about a lack of lube on a bike with none, but all I do is whack it on a stand as soon as I get home from a ride, then spray the whole thing with one coat and leave it. Chain is rust free and I can take left handers confidently.
  12. Is it not distracting when say you need to give 10 feet of lead, would that not be outside the sight picture? Dunno why I'm so interested as I'm quite happy with normal sights and don't have a moderated shotgun.........but I am!
  13. It might be if you can remove your chain without cutting/breaking a link. I couldn't on mine. It's also overkill IMO. It was fine and valid for the old plain link chains, but modern O/X-ring chains are designed to hold lube behind the ring, you are protecting the visible faces primarily nowadays.
  14. Careful now, that's bordering on a sensible and balanced post, most un-PW like. ^_^ As for the content of your post, spot on, couldn't agree more. It most certainly is do-able, and it's the individuals decision at the time. Is it time for another 'call out' by video? Last one did make me grin when several people did manage some 'impossibly' small forty yard groups! Still the same names throwing the mud about as then though.
  15. It is viable to do yourself if you understand soldering. I did one myself a couple of months or so back...just need to get around to getting it reblacked. Follow the basic soldering principle of clean the metal to a shine, thoroughly degrease and then resolder. Take your time with heating it up but if you know what it looks like when solder runs, you'll be ok.
  16. Definitely NOT WD40, not thick enough. I use an aerosol chain wax. Seems to do the job and the fling's not too bad I think some is inevitable. I have to say, if I was still doing big miles I'd have another Scottoiler fitted. Slightly more mess but chains last AGES!!! My VFR was on the same chain after 4 years, 2 sprockets and about 40,000 miles.
  17. I just had to Wiki 'holographic sight', never even heard of let alone seen one. Was 'zeroing' it just a case of shooting at clays and adjusting until you hit them? Do you still look 'through' it and effectively have the bead/cross hairs in your peripheral? How did it work with giving a big lead?
  18. Only lost a couple of pounds in the first week, but 7lb overall so far. Under 14 stone for the first time in a while.
  19. You're a small, portly woman from Norfolk?
  20. This ^^^ is what I do. A small triangle of Scotch on the inside of the shooting glasses lens which obscures the rib and bead when the gun's mounted, however its clear of your vision when your heads not on the stock giving you decent peripheral vision. I use it on clays and in the field with reasonable success.
  21. There you go...a snip at 300 quid. http://www.censdigital.com/mino.html
  22. I know many of you can't believe people still buy Hatsans, but, some of us have Hatsans that work perfectly reliably and have done so for a while. I had a small issue of blocked gas ports when I bought it, but since then it's been spot on, both in the hide and on the marsh.
  23. Proving the often heard comment that one really should read the whole thread before commenting.
