  1. Probably is a lead issue to be honest. Coming toward you requires very little lead, the more they cross the more lead they need. It's difficult to advise as everyones idea of 4 feet seems to differ and it changes with range BUT...I'd reckon about 4 feet on a crossing bird at medium pace about 25 metres out. I try and 'gauge' what I think is 4 feet of course, it could be more but I suppose that is 5 or so bird lengths.
  2. Now there's an assumption. What would actually happen would be I'd take a look at what you have posted and then have a chat wit you by PM. At worst case, by posting over an extended period of time I would have you down as a serial lurker!
  3. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WING-SPREADER-FOR-PIGEON-MAGNET-OR-BOUNCER-PAIR-V-SEC-/200473010920 Just realised I need to replace one anyway!!!
  4. 3 years of daily use and not a problem, but yes, they are fully strippable. I had one previous for a few years too...but lost it (read left it somewhere and soomeone lifted it!)!
  5. That's very clever...but if I could make that I wouldn't need a copy lathe.
  6. Can vouch for the Rothenberger longevity. Had mine 3 years plus now, but I do keep it clean.
  7. I have been using a Rothenberger Super-Fire 2, for all of my soldering up to 54mm now (MAPP gas on the bigger stuff) http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Rothenberger_Super-Fire_2_Blow_Torch.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feedmanager&gclid=CM-ku5yU4rkCFQfMtAodwA4A6Q Gas does work out more expensive than the old propane bottles, but for flexibility it can't be beaten.
  8. Err, when I've taken one I can. Not long had it, hence my absolute lack of knowledge. They guy I bought it from knew his Discos, has had about 10 of them now and the numbers matched up ok so I have no reason to think it's anything other than a 200 to be honest. Even if it was a 300, is the diff lock mech any different?
  9. Flippin 'eck this is getting confusing. Just checked with the previous owner, apparently it's a late registered 200 tdi. Definitely a 200 tdi.
  10. Ring your local councils parking enforcement and find out if there are any restrictions preventing you parking there. If not ask for written confirmation and give it to your boss, surely he'd rather not lose a driver over a whingeing old gasbag.
  11. Definitely not a Td5, it's a 200 Tdi.....sorry, assumed the sticker saying Series II made it a Discovery 2.
  12. Right, well. it shows diff lock on the selecter, and it shows how to use the diff lock in the manual, this is an early model (1995) and as far as I can ascertain it should have. It certainly doesn't seem to have anything with regard to a hill descent function.
  13. De Walt seemed to go through a rough spell, particularly with their batteries! Bloody things wee forever giving up the ghost. I'm sure they've improved now, particularly with the advent of Li-ion, but I fell out of love with them and genuinely believe the Makita stuff is better built. Milwaukee, Festo et al is brilliant, but bloody expensive!
  14. So is it a case of the linkage or is it in the 'box? If it's the linkage then are we talking penetrating oil and just keep working it until it frees, or will it need slightly more robust persuasion? I think it's just the joys of a Landy that's lived it's last few years on tarmac...that's about to change!
  15. Before I get the WD40 and big hammer out, can anyone suggest why I can't get the diff lock on a D2 manual to engage? The high and low ratios engage ok, but I cannot move the lever to the left to engage diff lock...not a millimetre! I am assuming it is a mechanical engagement rather than an electronic solenoid? Is it just stuck from lack of use, or am I missing a trick?
  16. Probably my least favourite room. I feel the same tiles on the floor and walls is too much and would have used something different but complimentary...but as I said earlier that's a personal preference not a comment on the workmanship and was probably specified that way. I also don't like the way the high level cupboard doesn't line up with the wardrobe door but understand that it was probably a decision made by the client, I'd have liked to see the top corner of the door and frame trimmed to pull it over. It's easy to critcise from my armchair though and the general look of it is very good.
  17. ...and it's not often you get to say that on a push bike.
  18. Always dead birds on the magnet for me, occasionally I use foam winged decoys on the floaters, but not on the flapper or magnet.
  19. Makita all the way now. I've had DeWalt and Panasonic stuff in the past but I am now slowly but surely buying Makita every time I need to replace. So far it's combi drill, impact driver, jigsaw and angle grinder, cannot fault any of them. Only thing I'd dither about is the 36v Hammer drill/chisel. I have the top Bosch one and it's blinking brilliant! As yet I don't think anyone compares to the Makita stuff or the Bosch 36 for sensible money.
  20. My little 'un last season spotting birds before I did again! Not bad for a pet mutt who had no gundog training before 4 years old.
  21. Sorry to hear that M O G, but that's a decent innings so he must have been well looked after.
  22. Camo finish is soft, they need to be kept clean but, they do what they are supposed to which is go bang when you pull the trigger. Had mine a couple of seasons now which says a lot as I tend to get rid of a gun pronto if I don't get on with it. I have a Browning 525 which I use most of the year for everything, but when the weather turns or I go out on the marsh its the Hatsan that comes with me. I shoot as much with the Hatsan as I do with the Browning.
