  1. Paul - the XS is a first class gun, built to last a lifetime or two. Ideal for game and clays. Good luck. If it fits - go for it.
  2. From memory - phillips head screws - diagram looks same. http://gunmanuals.net/Manuals/remington_1100-1187.pdf page 22
  3. Zapp - your modesty is commendable
  4. Pavman - I agree that "antis" seem almost above the law, but legally speaking - you can't be offered a caution and then decline without going to court. I am no expert on cautions, but I believe under PACE that a caution can only be offered if the Police intend to prosecute if it is declined.
  5. The last post sums up that people in general are responsible owners and do not take risks. These tragedies seem to occur when a small child is left alone with a dog capable of harming them - whatever breed. When you see photos of the dog's owner - whether he has his mask and gun, giving the finger or sobbing, it is hard not to come to the conclusion that he isn't a responsible owner - just an idiot. Shame a young child had to die because of his arrogance.
  6. Won my first ever trophy at Middle farm in 1982. Nice people and decent shoot. Noise complaints did for them - from memory.
  7. I would avoid the Grouse - full stop. Very dodgy cages - likely to damage your gun.
  8. The one at Malmo is cheap. Expect to pay £1500 upwards.
  9. I am not an Man U fan, but Giggs has been a model pro for donkeys years.
  10. Mike - most of the things you suggest could be applied to firearms. Licencing has not taken guns out of the hands of criminals, nor would it keep dogs from scrotes, nor prevent them from breeding.
  11. Beretta - totaly agree. I knew Brian and John Hinchcliffe fairly well over nearly 30 years. Top people. The Boar is a decent ground, with good targets. Access is either a hard walk up a steep hill or 4 x 4. Don't know about tuition though.
  12. Listened to Radio 2 at lunchtime. Man rang up and said it was lack of dog training. He had some rare cross-bred guard dogs who he let play with his three nephews - 2, 4 and 6, because his dogs were trained. He said "my dogs are as soft as grease" - whatever he meant by that. He modestly claimed to be something of an expert in these matters. As the host pointed out - almost all dogs involved in attacks are owned by people who swear the dogs have never bitten anyone before. People get delusional about trusting their own dog. You can't guarantee a dog's behaviour in every circumstance - no-one can. It's a tragedy for the young lad, but where were the family brain cells when they let a dog do this. I have two Akitas - they go nowhere near my grandchildren. The dogs are locked out when they visit. I never leave my dogs alone with relatives, friends or anyone. They remain on a lead. Why take a chance. It's too late once it has happened.
  13. Are you selling the guns individually or as a pair? Not too clear from advert. If singly - what price for each one?
  14. You can buy 1/4, 1/2 and full, brand new for £24 including postage - for the three.
  15. Quite fancied one a while ago and went over to Swillington Shooting. The gun, although fairly new, had aged rapidly. The blueing was thinning at an alarming rate and the barrels had play in the action, when you removed the forend. Put me right off.
  16. Anyone had any experience of this ointment, which is advertised in the Shooting Times? My Akita bitch has a small patch which she insists on scratching. Many visits to the vets over a few years have never cured her. This stuff seems ideal - reading the advert - but is not cheap. I don't mind paying - but not for something which doesn't work. Views welcome.
  17. Every man should have at least 35 ratchets - Snap On, Facom, Mac, Beta, Blackhawk, Proto, Armstrong, KD, SK, Teng, Craftsman, Stahwille, Durachrome, Easco, Beldon Bros, Bonney, Crescent, Husky, Par X, Plumb, Britool, Langline and Kastar, plus a few more. It's a bit sad really, but they accumulate all on their own. The Blackhawk is my favourite.
  18. Sorry no-one has replied. I have not owned the GTS, but have owned XT x 2 and an XS, which are identical bar engraving. Excellent guns which will last a lifetime - very good resale value. Well balanced - I prefer the trap version - just personal preference. You can't really go wrong with a Browning.
  19. Cat - have to agree about the pairs. I have watched and then shot Compak and wondered why people shot simmo pairs in a certain order. They generally tend to watch which way others shoot them and follow suit without thinking whether it is the right way.
  20. Ollie - I agree. Nothing personal - I thing you are wrong. I do feel sorry for the Irish - a lot, and I mean a lot, of my relatives are Irish (the McNamee's of Donegal), but you can't turn back the clock. I would sooner make a friend than an enemy - so I am holding out the olive branch.
  21. I think that Mike Ginty has hit the nail on the head. Everyone does make mistakes at some time and credit should be given to those who do change, but these are so recent - 3 in the last three years - all similar - there is no chance an FEO would ignore them. 5 years might be optimistic, 10 far more realistic.
  22. Let me be blunt - you can't be trusted with a glass of water. I don't know what planet you landed from this morning, but who in their right mind would give you an SGC? You semi-boast about misdemeanours and then try to minimise them. I presume you are a wind-up merchant, but you might not be. I trust in the system enough to know that you have not got a prayer, nor should you, of getting near firearms legally.
