  1. After drowning and breaking far to many mobile phones I am looking at getting something more robust with a decent battery life. I have been reading up on JCB which reviewers say is rubbish and also looking at Landrover hand sets which seem to be by the same maker as the JCB badged set. Anyone got practical experience in either of the above? Blackpowder

I think if there was more discipline in schools and at home and less concentrating on the celeb culture and got rid of the human rights act in this country it would be a better place to life, I would also be happy to see those that break laws (which are for the benefit of us all) and properly punished, you don't see any litter and grafity in Singapore do you? 3. As already mentioned scout out the wood with most droppings and preened feathers, if you have isolated larch or hardwoods within your conifers try and get within shot of those as birds will land on them before actually seeking roosting trees, especially if late afternoon sun is still on them. A face mask is also a great help at roost time. Blackpowder
  4. Brilliant idea, last year at seed time I was suffering from back problems and was forced to pack in when I had 20 birds in the bag. Next time out I took my works sack barrow and yes not a pigeon in the field that day. Blackpowder
  5. Yes thought it was on the well hung side for a 4bore, have you cartridges for it? It 's a very intersting pice have you a story about its history by any chance? Blackpowder
  6. Orange ones very much like Sellior and Belliot, (Cheq) I think, kicked like a mule if I remember right . When they were first imported in the 1960s I was told at the local gunshop that these produced the nearest pattern to Eleys which at the time were the universal brand of cartridge. Blackpowder
  7. First class job there I take it it is 4 bore. Blackpowder
  8. Not surprised the only thing that sod could do is talk and hoodwink all those people who voted for his so called new labour. Old Scottish saying, " if you expect anything other than a grunt from a pig you'll be disappointed. Blackpowder
  9. One of the best aids to roost shooting in my opinion is to be comfortable and relaxed during the inevitable spells of inaction which occur. Warm clothing and footwear AND a shooting stick are what I find usefull. Blackpowder
  10. Ex layers are in my mind a total waste of money regardless of how cheap they are. Of fity released on a shoot I was involved with a few years ago only one wing tag was recovered. Where they went no one knows as none of the surrounding shoots reported any, which they would have done with great glee. No whatever your budget is spend it on poults and by what I have seen on self keepered shoots try and get them as late in the year as possible as lang as they are mature well tailed birds by the time of your first shoot. Blackpowder PS and welcome to PW
  11. In general I have found that there is a period between 12 and 2 pm when pigeons cease feeding and sit to digest their breakfast , brunch and lunch before returning to top up with tea, dinner and supper before going to roost. Blackpowder

Well if you recognise any of them in surgery be sure to use a blunt needle. Seriously the incident is a sad reflection upon how the do gooders have ruined this country. Once the Doctor, Minister , Headmaster and Policeman were held in deep respect, sparing the rod has not only spoiled the child it has spoiled the life of people victimised by the yob culture whose members can laugh at law and order knowing full well that only the mildest of punishments shall ever be meted out to them. 13. Personally I would pack in pigeon shooting if I had to pay for it on principle alone, yes it is the best shooting sport going be it decoying, flighting or roost shooting but whether taking part in mt Club charity shoots or protecting crops I feel that I am providing a service and should at the least be getting to what amounts to a pest control service free. It is quite understandable that shooters who do not have much opportunity shall be willing to pay for pigeon shooting. As a guide I can quote from an estatre where a "guide" ousted us with a promise to the manager of £15 per gun per day for sole rights, so count on paying at least £30 per day for the privilege. 15. I am sure the Late G Boothroyd wrote about sliding breech actions and Darne in particular in Shooting Times many years ago. Recollection seems to suggest that he said they were very positive ejectors and that the actions did not work loos no matter how well used they were. I would keep it if it were mine for sure a verty interesting gun Blackpowder
  16. For 15 years I used a home made trailer to carry creel bat ans shellfish- a very harsh environment the trailer base was 3/4 inch exterior ply painted with bitumastic paint. Cheap and long lasting. Blackpowder

  18. Is the close season for selling hares still in force? At one time it was illegal to sell hares after the beginning of February. Some farmers consider that two hares will eat as much as a ewe. After many years on the wane hare numbers are increasing again in some places although not in the numbers likely to attract the unwelcome attentions of poachers. Blackpowder
  19. Hi does anyone know what kind of fuse is in a shoot warehouse pigeon flapper timer. Mine is neither domestic nor auto so what else is there. Thanks BP.
  20. Used Zippos for years when I smoked a pipe, loved their simplicity and seemed to work well outdoors. Blackpowder
  21. Perhaps the rifle shooting in a public house is a tail back to the times when every village and town had its volounteer company of riflemen, an early territorial army? Many villages around The Bkrders have their Drill Halls and Volounteer Halls. In one at least I have shot rimfire from under the billiard tables at tragets backed with hardwood logs, that ended when the Drill Hall in question became a British Legion Social Club. Turn back the clock to pre 1940 and without doubt you will find quite a number of indoor ranges, a bit of research also reveals outdoor up to 1000yard ranges while I know of others which still retain their steel target plate and scorers refuge hut.
