  1. I've just been looking at the BUSH catlogue which arrived with the most recent BASC magazine and wondered if any forum members had ever used, "The Plucker" as advertised top left of page 84. Blackpowder
  2. ' know exactly how you feel Delbert, if it were not for the likes of Ray Mears and his ilk my TV would never be on. The media today seems obsessed with the cult of the overpaid and undertallented , "celeb", Jack was a true gent in the best sense of the word, his on air skills in putting over aspects of country life have never been matched in my opinion. 3. Your first 2 pics look like a horse drawn implement for drawing along the top of potatoe drills. Plenty people into these things for collections and decorative purposes but dont know what they would be willing to pay. Looks original though dont be tempted to tart it up. Blackpowder
  4. I saw the episode when they were supposed to be doing HIGH TEA, what a farce, decorated plates more like. For high tea where was the mixed grill, the breaded haddock and all the other items which went with it . Lashings of bread and butter , scones and a fairy cake or two for those of that persusion who had some room left. Oh and not a chip in sight, they should be banished to distant lands far from our shores for such sacrilege. blackpowder

  8. I'm sure they have it wrong when they say that , "Laird" is the Scottish equivilent of , "Lord". Laird should denote a land owner however small, farmer etc or even head of the house if you care to skip back a few decades. Owners of small land holdings were described as , "bonnet lairds" by their headgear, possibly could not afford a proper lum hat or bowler. Best of luck to the new lairds or lords of lochaber, just wish I had a few hundred square yards to sell some on under the same terms. Blackpowder
  9. Good I am glad we agree that more havoc is wreaked on our roads by young inexperienced drivers than by the older codgers. blackpowder
  10. So Mr de la mare says speed does not kill, why then can he tell me that scarce a week goes past when newspaper headlines are not crying out about another car load of youngsters killed by an incompetant young driver at the wheel. Alas sometimes the victims include competant and able older drivers who have been unfortunate to meet these novices while they were on the wrong side of the road. Grow up man. Blackpowder
  11. Anyone had a go at this http://www:thefield.co.uk/barbour/index.html
  12. My classic, owned for 9 years was a 1977 MGB GT, for long my dream car, a car not kept for high days and dry days but run as a full time driver taking me fishing , shooting and walking not to mention camping holidys as far north as Cape Wrath. Yes there is something about the feel and sound of a classic British sports car which no modern car can surpass. Uncomfortable perhaps ,not as safe as modern cars, comparatively poor performance but well worth every penny of the small fortune spent on her. Blackpowder
  13. That is a very impressive fly for a first attempt. I have been at this lark for over 30 years now and its all down tom practice, and starting of with simple patterns and building up to more complicated upright winged dry flies as skill increases. It is a fascinating byproduct of shooting, using fur and plumage from quarry you have prepared for the table to entice yet more quarry for the table. Blackpowder
  14. DOnt know about the spellings but a lot of gypsie words are still used around here, especially just over the Border in Berwick on Tweed. Here goes manashee girl, woman gadgie man gadgies water bailiffs jougle dog barry good shawn bad In the building trade here a break for food is , "bait time". Blackpowder
  15. Gosh that is a hard one sambu, I have not seen inside one of these things since my apprenticeship days on the 1950's. As well as the non return valve thing the device, as far as I can remember which created the lift was a sort of VERY HEAVY leather bucket which ran up and down withing the barrels of the pump when the handle was cranked. I would reckon that like the Dodo these will be well nigh extinct, I suggest you try a vintage machinery show, some very knowlegable guys at these things while the trade stand have boxes of odd bits and pieces of about everything you can imagine. Good luck in your search. Blackpowder

    MORAL DILEMA!

I would go for the shooting, your MD appears as a down to earth bloke. It is not brown nosing rather the sharing of a common interest in my book. As a post script sod any marxists and their agenda. Blackpowder
  17. You have a whole shooting life ahead of you, be patient your time will come. Blackpowder
  18. I thought Labour were the party of equality and socialism: SO why as soon as some of its members think they have their posteria clear of the glaur they must have TITLES. Anyway what on earth is an unelected Lord doing in charge of our country. Blackpowder
  19. Power lines are frequent culprits of otherwise unexplained swan deaths. Blackpowder
  20. Good for you, let's hope it will make them think twice before they pull that stunt again. Blackpowder
  21. Heaven forbid, that man is everything you could detest in the human race. Blackpowder
  22. Very tidy trap John, we made some for a shoot a few years ago using steel rod covered with wire mesh. One of the main advantages of steel Larsens in my opinion is that from a distance they are less visible than the wood framed ones. So less interference by dogooders. Incidently these traps took 50 and 51 carrion crows two years running. Blackpowder
