  1. Yes we much prefer the morning flights but noticed very little movement when there was a full moon. Obviously because they had all ready been over night. It is just splashes we have access to. I will have to wait a few years before I can join a club and get on the shore as I have no dog. The present dog has a few years left yet and his no gun dog
  2. My first season is nearly done come the end of the month. It has been a huge learning curve and some amazing experiences and sights. Wish I had started this 30 odd years ago. I never really noticed them before because I never looked. I am amazed how nocturnal they are. We had a cracking flight one morning and when I was stood back I could see the reason. The decoys were bobbing about a treat in the wind and must have been catching there eye from a distance. So movement is key. Also the moon plays a huge part and dawn flights never seemed to work. The reason was when we arrived you could hear ducks every where but come day break they had gone. The full moon just gone we had a shoot under the moon and it all made sense. The ducks were coming in during the night and then leaving in the morning. It was an amazing site seeing the birds against the moon lit sky. A real memory was made. Tonight I was stood by a splash just after dark and 4 ducks landed and splashed down with in ten yards and soon shot off once they saw me. Me and my mate started the season quite late too so really can't wait until September the 1st They are also handsome things and I all most feel guilty shooting them but they taste lovely. We haven't had any huge amounts maybe 20 between us. Mostly a case of being in the wrong place or not being ready when they catch you out
  3. That is a pain because you would have to skin your birds and lose the best bit
  4. Cheers it is a 3 inch mag winchester pigeon
  5. Cheers thats what I wanted to know. Excellent
  6. no that is what was stamped on the barrel so thats is what i am asking. Can I assume it has been opened up. Not 100% sure what opened up for steel means. Apparently it was done by proper gun smith
  7. If you get a gun and are told its been opened up for steel. The chokes are full and a half. Does that mean the chokes have changed ?
  8. Have you ever stripped it ? Been looking for video but hard to find any thing decent
  9. Just curious has any one got a Squires Bingham Model 30 ?
  10. Aye beautyful. I take it the stone hide has been made for shooting from ? Perfect little spot
  11. If only it was that easy. They will try and force him back into work to get any thing. Which is fair enough if your 20 but at this gents time of life it would be a disgrace
  12. Mine has a double bead and its handy for making sure my face it correctly on the stock i find
  13. Hevi shot in the states looks be a tad over a £ per cart. I would guess I have shot 100-150 at most this winter on ducks and geese so would find that ok. As I said on another post I have about a dozen hevi carts and plan to save them for the geese on the stubble next September
  14. Out of interest if they are so great why are not more people using them ? Higher shot count, harder hitting longer range from what they say. What is not to like. Prices at least in america are not too grim. You would think a lot of wildfowlers would be using them ?
  15. Any online suppliers of hevi shot cartridges in the uk? Just looking for an idea of prices. Expensive I know
  16. Probably fancies him self as the next judge grinder or what ever his called
  17. That paper is a waste of space anyway. Sabs must just do it for a hobby just bunch of nutters. If you don't like some thing then don't do but don't impose your your thoughts on others or try too. Ferreting , long netting in thirty years time kids won't have a clue what that was. Country going down the pan. Far worse cruelty goes on every day in slaughter houses and live stock transport no doubt. Will I stop eating meat no.
  18. Spray paint be best I think as the auto needs stripping to clean be easier. Camo my **** must be american camo or some thing
  19. Cheers folks just required more of a determined wiggle. It was a bit sooted up so give a good clean and a smidge of grease
  20. I have the above and it stands out like sore thumb. I was walking the fields the other day and my mate stayed back in the cover he said he couldn't see me in the distance at all with my camo on but when I turned the gun was like a beakon. We did a duck flght to night and both invisible but the gun stood out a mile. His over and under with wood stock and black barrel was fine. Any recommendations for tape ?
  21. He is an amazing shot and this is from some one that can't hit a barn door. Also the videos have that music thing going which makes it quite exilerating. He comes across as a nice fella
  22. Loads of younsters would love to have a go most most could never afford it. Cost a fortune just to have the right attire. On the plus side there are plenty of other ways of shooting thankfully. I am lucky to have access to pigeons, rabbits and even a few duck spots now and me and my mate have just as much if not even more fun
