  1. I do a Timothy Taylor landlord clone not quite there yet but boy that is very drinkable pint very nice indeed holds a nice white frothy head all the way down the glass I.m quite happy with my results anyway when i pull a pint of it through my angram beer engine with the correct sprinkler on the swan neck its an out standing pint
  2. Or the really old fashioned way hold the case between finger and thumb untill.you start to feel the heat travel down the case then drop in water basic but effective you can see the heat shadow creeping down the case when you gain experience and then you won't burn your fingers either how do I know that lol
  3. Heavier the bullet the greater the recoil now fire a 577/450 martini henry full power loc milltary load Gordon Bennett fire 50 of those in a session that will teach you a thing or two about recoil but I love that smell kboom lol
  4. I bought some off ebay must have been teflon or summit couldnt make the f xxxxxg stuff stick to the bullets and i bought some pretty colours as well give it up as a bad job in the end lol
  5. William greener in 1894 I think it was right at the very birth of the smokeless powder era showed that even the compressed 303 black powder loads that were still being used by the british army at the time could on some occasions generate a chamber pressure that was twice that of the new nitro powders in use at the time with other nations armies so you see black powders can on occasions be a beast as well . everything in the end comes down to case integrity and chamber pressure
  6. Please don't think I'm having a go at you I'm not I think it's great that you posted your question I really do you.ll get good advise.from people that know a hell of a lot more than me on here that's for sure cookoff if you want chime in. you got three options in this game my friend and they are No1 ask and listen No2 live to enjoy your hobby No3 ignore and take a walk with the grim reaper they say ignorance is bliss don't become a static if you have any doubts ask that's what this forum is for strong words I know but if in doubt shout someone will always answer with good advise I hope i havent come accros as a know it all i.m no expert i dont qualify for the capital E in the word expert but i hope i was of some help at lest any way good luck with the loading
  7. Converted 303 brass now different thing all together its thicker brass its designed for smokeless loads but magtec brass cases are really to thin In my opinion for smokeless loads my advise is don't do it yes pyrodex or black powder not a problem magtec brass is actually manufactured for blackpower cowboy silhouette shooting matches and yes it does say for loading black powder only on the box well the last 5 boxes i bought did anyway Even when 24 bore magtec brass cases are reformed into 577/450 martini henry there is a school of thought that says use reduced loads of black powder in these reformed swaged cases those cases when filled to just below the case neck can hold in the region of between 100 to 120 grains of some brands of black powder under a 500 grain 470 diameter slug in a mk 4 long lever rifle So as you can imagine when you fire that little lot it has the potential to shake your fillings out belive me and if your firing a mk 1 m/h and you happened to forget and wraped your thumb around the wrist of that stock instead of that checkered thumb rest at the rear of the action boy oh boy when she barks she gives you a love bite and half she really does lol
  8. I personally wouldnt reload 410 brass cases with any smokeless loads black powder yes not a problem I reload for the 410 but i.d have thought there would be a hell of a difference pressure wise between a plastic and brass 410 case balloon head primer pockets on magtec brass cases be carefull i know a bit about magtec brass use to convert the 24 bore brass cases to 577/450 martini cases Untill you split one of those cases cross sectional wise on a bandsaw do you realise how thin that brass really is but that's just my opinion
  9. Be carefull You'll have a hell of a job to buy primers for them if i remember rightly they need large pistol primers to prime mind unless you got a slot on your ticket for a calibre that uses pistol primers then you.ll be fine they wont sell them to you even though its for a shotun case they can however be converted quite easily to fire 209 size primers but a disclaimer i.m not responsible for someone else's stupidity here mind THE 209 PRIMER CONVERSION IS NOT RECOMENDED FOR USE WITH SMOKELESS POWDER LOADS PERIOD ONLY BLACK POWDER LOADS CAN BE LOADED IN CONVERTED BRASS CASES Please take note for safety.s sake
  10. Corr bet they'd fly through a Mossberg 500 oops lol
  11. I dont think you.ll be disappointed with that mould I think lee is on a winner with that one casts beautifully bullets straight out of the box after cleaning and smoking the mould of course drops very consistently too with lyman # 2 metal waiting patiently now for my pat marlin 22 gas check maker to turn up I found a box of lyman 22 checks in a pile is stuff I bought a few years back but i.m a bit reluctant to use em now especially when i seen how much they are to buy now lol
  12. Same as me cook eh found out the hard way been there done it got the t shirt lol that's why I.ve been doing all grain for the past couple of years now Rob the maltmiller must love me I've revamped my set up over the last 5 years a grainfather and new shiny brewing porn conical.s etc too many hobbies now and not enough time to play with it all lol
  13. Good luck with the powder coating I found I couldn't get the powder to stick to the bullets frustration wasn't the word for it lol
  14. Well not untill you see the price of 22 gas checks fxxk me o Riley that's stroke material that is lol waiting patiently now for my pat marlin gas check maker to turn up I saw them advertized hornady and rcbs 22 gas checks at £52 a 1000 the other day a pound dearer than 1 of pats marlins gas check makers
  15. One tip dump the yeast that comes in the kit and buy a packet of wilcos Nottingham yeast you won't regret it
  16. Go on YouTube Gavin Webber is the man to watch cheese maker extraordinaire have a go at making Caerphilly one of the quickest to mature and tastes fantastic but maybe I could be a bit bias my home county where i live after all lol
  17. I dont think You.ll won't go far wrong with that lee 55 grain .225 mould don't get me wrong full power loads for foxing are fine but using them for paper punching or ringing steel is waaay to expensive for me 8.5 grains of powder and a cast bullet and you.ve just slashed the cost of your shooting no contest is it
  18. Brought my hand kranked one from siarm Italy I'm pleased with it 30 odd quid if I remember rightly does a nice job anyway rivals any eley fourlong crimp any day
  19. Hey Lancer a bit of an update for you I spent an interesting 2 hours today trying out 40 of those 222 rem reduced loads i wanted to know about using the lee 55 grain cast gas checked bullets sized to 225 diameter Fired them through the chronograph in batches of 5 at half a grain increments in powder charge for velocity just to see what numbers I was getting so wasn't interested in accuracy today What intrigued me was the velocities I was getting with my powder choice I was using in the load so far I.ve got the r/f velocities which is great and I think I.ve got the hornet velocities sorted as well i.m hovering between the 2000 to 2350 fps range the powder I'm using is a revelation its the old Nobel Glasgow 80 shotgun powder i was given 4 sealed cans of this back about 3 or 4 years ago and has been sat in the magazine ever since its dense its bulky and as floating chamber once said it was designed to be idiot proof to prevent double charging which it certainly does in 222 rem cases for example 7.5 grain charge has so far half filled a 222 case so no need for any fillers whatsoever and with a similar burn rate to alliant unique if im not mistaken all 40 rounds fired no problem no extraction issues . No signs of pressure no primer bulging issues etc nice muzzle report not that loud crack when you squeeze off that full power load all In all a very pleasant cartridge to shoot no leading and most importantly full powder combustion bores as clean as a pin so i think ive got a blank canvas with which to work with here and fine tune some loads
  20. Make sure you trim to length then its Usually every 3 or 4 firings gently heat the shoulder and neck only
  21. Hmmm Large pistol primers fit In the magtec shotgun brass cases that should be an interesting point of law its a shotgun case that technically you can't reprime and reload to use then then
  22. I have been using an unknown alloy from shot making mind to cast these bullets which is producing a very hard but very nice looking slug which flows and fills my mould casting perfect bullets so weather that has anything to do with why the powdercoat wont stick to the bullets would be interesting to know I've tumbled them in the powdercoat for hours on end with no joy so weather its my alloy or the powdercoat its self is the problem I don't know
  23. Yeah cast boolits is one of my favourite go to forums but i have been watching elvis ammo and fortune cookie fc on YouTube as well might try the wet coating method I seen described when i get some time
  24. I tried to powdercoat the cast lee . 225 dia bullets but try as i might i couldn't get the powdercoat to stick to the bullets so i gave it up as a bad job pity as I think i had 10 pretty colours of powdercoat off fleabay for the job lol.
