Only just seen this but i have the same problem with cheddite cases and fibre wads the fibre wads i have are just a little over sized and when seated on top of the powder and filled with shot and roll crimped expand just enough to have issues with the ejection when fired a right pain in the **** that's why I've gone back to using plastic wads now
-
Yeah i agree theres quite a few methods how to do it basically its just the neck and shoulder your annealing NOT the entire case I've never had a problem anyhow some cases are on their 10th loading but saying that I don't push things and load to the max anyhow

Umm its ok to take the mick its a hell of a lot safer than a steel plate and ricochets hitting and killing livestock take it from me I'm a farmer I know rather be safe than sorry I'd rather put up a bale of silage for someone's backstop any day of the week.

I.ve had the gen 6 and yes I'm rather impressed with it. I.m in the process of developing some reduced loads for 222 rem using nobel 80 powder and so far its been 1/10th of a grain perfect speeded things up a hell of a lot

Any chance you could get your farmer friend to put an old round bale of silage as a backstop a round bale is 4ft thick that.ll stop a bullet

Clay and game hmm Do they sell used equipment then cos to all intents and purposes they looked used to me ian Charlton use to when he owned it back in the day nice fellow met him a few times in the NEC Birmingham when i ordered stuff and i,d collect it from his stand at shooting show back in the late eighties early nineties i guess it was clay and game reloaders back then based in Cambridge but that was years ago but he always clearly stated it was used equipment if that was what you were after You have surprised me there

Yeah looks like an Arab jezil flint lock musket believe it or not Sudanese tribesmen used these in great numbers at the battle of omdurman in 1898 i think it was image that up against nice new shiny 8 shot long lee metford/enfield rifles volley firing those nasty new dum dum bullets that a certain capt berti clay from the dum dum arsenal in India had recently designed bit of an **** twitcher that one I know what lines I.d have rather been standing in that day in history

hafod replied to Old farrier's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Yeah me too bought a couple of thousand off a fellow reloaders widow ( who died of natural causes by the way ) she was relieved to get rid of it all and she was very happy with the money and i was very happy with what I got so a win win situation all round -
chronograph recommendations for shotgun
hafod replied to swan40's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
I run a Caldwell chronograph It can be a bit sensitive to sunlight and cloud on times but I test all my shotgun and rifle loads on mine does What it says on the tin as they say but i do like it though easy to use and operate -
hi gentleman title says it all really anyone running one of these for weighing out reduced charges between 4 and 10 grains of powders like the vectan flake powders and alliant unique and the dot powders etc

Hope you dont mind me chiming in but why dont you make your own spray lube gents a jar of pure lanolin and a litre of denutured 90% alcohol spray it on your cases allow them to dry then size been using it now for the last few months and works great I.ve had no oil dents no stuck cases or wrinkled cases its brilliant and its as slick as snot as the saying goes lol But seriously a jar of pure lanolin and a litre of 90% pure (dont use less than 90 % ) denutured alcohol and you.ve got a lifetimes supply of the best case lube you.ve ever used beats , lyman ,rcbs hornady , lee etc any day of the week Once you have mixed it put it in one of those little travel spray bottles then give it a shake and spray it does have a tendency to separate when stood for a while but a couple of brisk shakes and it remixes fine plenty of recipes on YouTube for making your own try it I don't think you.ll buy any commercial lubes again and pennies to make compared to a tin of hornady one shot for example

Your Quite right stout recoil in the rifle but murder to use in the carbine i.d say in the carbines full power load cartridges about the same recoil as a 4 bore fowler I.d say on the mk 1 martini henry there's a knack to firing it on the rear of the receiver there's an oval checkered detent you place your thumb there when you fire if you dont and wrap your thumb around the wrist of the stock as you do with any other gun well let's just say with full power 100 + grain loads of black powder the recoil brings your thumb into painfull contact with your nose vey often making it bleed a great way to bring the resident club know it all down to earth and we all know one on the firing line dont we lol

Most people wear a pad under their jacket but a lot shooters shoot full power loads personally i never load that hot a load now getting knocked about like that is no fun

Dont quote me on this but i dont think pine is a very good idea for smoke curing because of the creosote it produces But you wont go far wrong with the old traditional staples namely oak , beech , ash , apple , alder , maple , or its European competitor sycamore have heard that sweet chestnut ( not to be confused with the horse chestnut or conker ) produces a nice flavour
