Two Tier Kier setting out the pain that is coming.......................
oowee replied to TIGHTCHOKE's topic in Off Topic
According to the OBR, the UK economy is predicted to grow 2% in 2025, 1.8% in 2026, before declining to 1.5% in 2027 and 2028. For 2029, real GDP growth is expected to slightly increase to 1.6%. -

If they do and i doubt it, it will because despite their best efforts they could not change the trajectory of the economy etched over the last 14 years. You don't run a country like a business look at the States. It is possible to grow a country out of debt with investment. What we have is a plan, we just have to hope it works. -
There was a mention of the covid fraud hunting team.

Its not a household budget. Also I think we should congratulate Rachel Reeves on delivering a masterly performance. -

Tough decisions had to be made. Those that have must pay more. Those in need are prioritised. We cannot just ignore the problems of neglect over the last 14 years. -

Yep pretty impressive hole. For completeness £11bn for infected blood and £1.5bn Horizon. -

Failed economy, outstanding pay claims, outstanding compensation schemes. This is a govt getting the foundations right. Many would rather not deal with reality, bury their head and pretend that this fiscal hole was all a bad dream. Others get it sorted 👍 Some of the flotsam is clever. -

There is an awful lot of work in this budget. Lots of good investment proposals, looks like the opposition has been caught off guard. Good to see proposals all across the country. £22bn for NHS plus £3.1bn capital money for maintenance and rebuilding delivering on the Johnson blathering. Funds for the infected blood scandal and the Horizon compensation is long overdue. Excellent all round but could have dragged in more cash from fuel. The increases in council house funding looks light given the 2nd home tax up to 5%. Overall you have to be impressed with that budget. -

This is not the first time that it falls to the Labour Party to rebuild this country. 😍 Brought a tear to me eye. -
🤣 that would be me and @oldypigeonpopper then. I drive but if there is a chance to use public transport then I will. £4 Bristol to London can't be wrong. On a night out, there is no way I want to drive.

That rally was pretty bad to say the least. I cannot believe that his team has so little control. Use of the c word to describe the opposition from Musk is a new low. Our politics may get a bit stupid with the likes of Corbyn, Truss and Johnson but we still retain a degree of politeness.

Looking forward (🤞) to hearing the plans and hoping our public services get back on track. I recon 10P a litre on fuel, chop top rate of tax relief on pension subs for high earners, hold tax free allowance (may be a below inflation rise on lower level), increase tax on stock trades, top rate of stamp duty increased. Clearly something on capital gains and NI. -
I guess losing his pay won't be a problem then? The rest is upto the Police and the court.

We can't we are not part of the EU remember 🙂 We are just watching from the sidelines as the world carries on without us.

Labour suspended him. Swift action.

I guess if there were Russian thugs beating up the monitoring staff, the officials, vote stuffing, and handing out papers that only allowed voting for one party there would be a degree of concern. Like Hungary and Slovakia Georgia have taken over state tv and put in place a foreign agents act so no chance of free and fair elections. Question now i guess is will they role over or stand up and be killed?

I take the advice of the team of economists working at the OBR. I accept though that it's now somewhat dated. With the recent introduction of Border checks it would be reasonable to assume a significant increase in the size of the contraction. The Border Target Operating Model shows increasing controls throughout 2024 particularly on bio security. I see today another example of the difficulties. I am sure a way around will be found it's just the fiscal drag that we have to live with. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/oct/29/post-brexit-border-checks-putting-food-security-at-risk-produce-sellers-warn

That's an obfuscation. The 4% economic contraction is measured as a direct result of Brexit over and above global economic changes. Same as the hike in energy bills, its an additional impact over an above the wider increases in fuel costs seen across Europe.
