Depends on why you're 'visiting'. If you don't know him, and you're asking for shooting then no time is a good time. If you're offering help in return for shooting, then no time is a good time. However, if you're offering help full stop, then anytime would be a good time. (The shooting would naturally follow by invitation when you've earned his trust and shown that you're not just a 'chancer'.) Maybe not all 'keepers would act as above....maybe it's just me...... :look:

Just one thing to add to marks response....you also need to use a soft point bullet designed for the job in hand, and not a ballistic tipped bullet designed for varminting.

That about sums them up. I traded a Beretta for my F3 and have never looked back. Very very pointable and has improved my shooting superbly.

Ballistic tipped hunting bullets are fine as long as they are not driven too fast. This past season I've used 120gn Nosler BT out of my .260Rem driven at 2800fps and they have done the job very well indeed, no excessive meat damage, good penetration, very good stoppers.

I use BR2's for my .260Rem and 6.5Nemasis loads, never had any problems, always provide consistant accuracy. I also use BR4's in my 6mm BR, and same there, very consistant accuracy so no complaints about them either.

I have an IOR 3-18 x 42 Illum on my foxing rig and have use it in anger now for two years...I honestly can't fault it in any way. Repeatability when dialing has been good when I've done some long range work with the rifle, and the glass is excellent. Baldrick - IOR now do a tapered two piece rail that will fit the Sako taper, I have one on my A2 and it works just fine.

Absolute rubbish! If I were you I would stay clear of those gunshops in future and find one that knows what they're talking about. No need for heavy/varmint profile barrels unless you intend to do lots of papaer punching in long sessions. I have a sporter weight barrel on my 6mm BR and it will shoot the 'nads of a magpie at 500 yards with great regularity.....

Yes....but make sure you use BT's designed for hunting and not varminting. ALSO...drive them at the correct speed and they are excellent....drive them too fast and they will not penetrate and expand correctly.

Steve, For a nice stock for your CZ look at Wild Dog. I have one on my .22lr and it transformed the accuracy.

I would suggest that a case length trimmer is one of the first things that you buy, overlength cases can cause serious problems. You can pick up a Lee case length gauge and trimmer for around £10...money very well spent.

Toka, Yes you can just do the test....but you would still need to fork out for the study material, which would need to be up to date. DSC1 covers you for large game hygiene (Deer), so you would only have to do the meat hygiene course if you also wanted to sell small game.

Have you ever seen the heart/lung area of a Red deer compared to a rabbit? I think you would be surprised at the size......

I settled on .260Rem after owning many, but not all, other deer legal calibers. Ticks all the boxes for me.

If you can show good reason to own the .17Rem, and show safe shooting practice, aware of footpaths etc then your FEO should have no issues with allowing you the centrefire. As HD said, have a word with BASC. However, in your post above you mentioned your use being for long range pigeons and rabbits? That could be a stumbling block if that is your 'good reason'.

Before you start with the whistle make sure she is 100% on voice commands. Then start to blow the stop command on the whistle, immediately followed by the voice 'stop/sit/wait' command. Your pup will soon pick it up. (Don't rush it, at 10 months she is still a pup remember)

Any dog will get used to any whistle that you select and use regularly, whether it be 210.5 or 211.5, spaniel, lab, HPR........
