  1. How rude U. I used a .243 not a .22lr so keep such comments to yourself i have a busy night tonight. Need to see what the cubs are doing and also have problems at a chicken farm so hopefully some more pics tomorrow. if you are going to respond please keep it civil.
  2. Well done buddy. I was getting a little worried that all of your shooting was through a camera.
  3. +1. Always nice to have a bit of enjoyable sport..oops I mean some enjoyable pest control under the Open General Licence
  4. Nice pics U. Was hoping to see you with 7 dead foxes though.
  5. £150 give or take. Not had a chance to try it out yet but fully extended is fits me way better. The only issue I that I will have one less excuse to use when I keep missing.
  6. Despite getting up at 3.45 am to go crow shooting on saturday I thought it would be worth a quick walk round the nice clear silage fields with the .243. I arrived at 10.00 just as the light was fading. Drove into one of the fields to park up and to my surprise there was a fox mooching about 150 yards away. Fortunately he wasnt bothered by me which gave me time to set the rifle up on top of my pickup. Quick squeak brought him to 70 yards and a 75 grain SST ended his evening foraging. I had a good walk round the ground until about 12.30 and was walking back to the pickup when I spotted a flash of eyes. Checked through the NV to see 3 pretty big cubs charging around. Unfortunately I couldnt get a safe shot due to the lay of the land. The only way I could get the height required was to get the pickup and shoot off the roof. As I arrived back with the pickup the vixen called the cubs back. All set up and ready to go nothing showed for 30 mins. Over to the foxpro to see what effect this would have. I used the juvenille fox in distress call and within 2 seconds a fox came streaking out of the small woods, shot her about 70 yards in the centre of the head. 20 seconds later another fox appeared about 110 yards away, hit her in the centre of the chest. On inspection the first fox was a barren vixen who was obviously helping look after the cubs due to her reaction to the call, the second vixen was mum, though she was no longer suckling the cubs. Unfortunately no sign of the cubs so I decided to call it a night about 1.45 a.m. Last look saw another fox with a significant limp coming across the field. Stopped him at 170 yards with another chest shot. All in all not a bad nights work with 2 vixens and 2 dogs. Went out Sunday night to see if I could catch up with the cubs, with no luck. Back again tonight and then I will get a cage trap out for a couple of days followed by the terriers if I havent got them.
  7. Since one of the farms where I shoot has cleared the silage over the last few days I decided that an early morning outing on Saturday was in order. When the alarm went off at 3.45 a.m I questioned my sanity but decided that as I didnt have any it was time to get out with the gun. Set up and shooting by 4.45 with a few in the bag early on. All quiet after a couple of hours so moved and set up in another field. Good shooting for a couple of hours but then all quiet again. With 200 acres of cleared fields there was to much choice for the birds. Called it a day at 12.00 with a mixed bag of 56 crows, rooks and jackdaws and 3 magpies. An enjoyable few hours.
  8. Just fitted an ATI T2 stock to my SXP as the stock was a little short for my long arms.
  9. Lots of good advice above. As most of the guys have said the worst response will be no. If you get a refusal you are in no worse position then when you started. Keep trying and you will get a yes. As soon as you do make sure look after the permission. Once the farmer is happy you are doing a good job it should be easier to pick up additional ground through name dropping or asking the farmer to put a good word in for you with his neighbours.
  10. Sorry mate as the other guys have said I think you are incorrect here. As long as you meet the minimum criteria for calibre, bullet weight and mv it matters not if deer is not specified on your ticket but AOLQ is. The same applies for shooting a fox with a rifle specified for deer and AOLQ. I have a .270 which states deer and AOLQ which means fox is fair game.
  11. I think it is well worth having a card as it creates a good, professional impression. I had 200 printed but after handing out 5 and picking up 2 permissions the rest are in the cupboard as I dont have time for any more ground.
  12. Looks like he's already had a few.
  13. I thought it wouldnt take long for the excuses to start
  14. Totally agree with this and all similar comments. True sportsmen hate to see suffering of any sort.
  15. U I am not at all impressed with you. Pull your finger out and make sure the next photos you post are you with 7 dead foxes.
  16. Well done buddy..worth getting out of bed for.
  17. That is a fair list. There are going to be some unhappy (and dead) wilderness creatures when you get that arsenal. Is the .300 win mag for the rabbits?
  18. Well done on the certs but a shocking oversight with regards to the cash, I am sure you wont make the same mistake again.
