  1. ***...This scared the living daylights out of me..but I love the photos, not sure I will give it a try but very ingenious.
  2. Not an ideal scenario I agree and I dont like being responsible for cubs "starving to death". However, when I am asked to shoot foxes on a new farm I have 2 choices. Dont shoot them due to the time of the year and loose the permission or do what I am asked to. Where possible I will get terriers down to deal with the cubs if I am sure where the set is, but this isnt always possible. In reality there is a chance of orphaning cubs from the end of Jan to July so would your suggestion be not to shoot any foxes during this period? Or just shoot the dogs? A good little scope, much better with the doubler. I generally use this rifle for the bunnies but if a fox is at a sensible range I will happily shoot them. Effective range with a reasonable external IR is 120-150 yards which is more then sufficient
  3. Cheers gents. Rifle is a Sako 85 (laminate stainless) in .270 win, PES T12 mod, Swarovski Z6I 5-30 x 50 IR BT scope.
  4. Had a nice walk round a fairly new permission last night where I have accounted for 4 foxes in the last 2 weeks. Decided after a tour of the farm (on foot) that I would set the rifle up on the top of the pickup and see what effect the foxpro had. Tried a few calls for about 5 minutes before a set of eyes appeared 400 yards away. I checked through the NV on the rifle and confirmed it as a fox. Typically he decided to go round behind me and sit on the other side of a fence and have a look to see what was going on. Changed calls a few times and finally managed to get the fox into the same field. Dropped him at about 130 yards with a 75 grain sst. Big dog fox in fantastic condition. The rifle is a Howa 1500 in .243 win (varmint barrel, laminate thumbhole), sonic 45 mod and a N750A NV scope with a Nighmaster 800 IR.
  5. or maybe lure it in with "sausage" then hit it with the shovel.
  6. I managed to catch up with these 2 a couple of weeks ago. Both shot with the .17 hmr 50 and 60 yards (both head shots). Apologies for the photo quality. Rifle is an Anschutz 1517 with a photon yukon scope (with doubler fitted).
  7. Apologies gents as it has taken me a while to figure out how to post pics (not the most tech friendly of people) Here is a picture of a nice dog fox I shot with the .270 last September.
  8. Well done mate. Good shooting.
  9. Well done buddy. Nice to see your "artistic side" coming out with the bee pic (presuming you didnt shoot it as well
  10. +1. I thought that this was along the lines of Underdogs usual contentious posts (no offence U) (vulpes vulpes mark 2 or similar).
  11. Fantastic shooting as usual. I must say that your superb tash comes in for a fair bit of "abuse" which isnt warranted at all.
  12. Impressive work as always. Keep up the good work.
  13. At least we should be thankful you had some clothes on.
  14. Good value for money but would always opt for the best scope I can afford. A nice Swarovski Z6I or Zeiss Victory perhaps
  15. Jimlondon- looks like there is some good Pheasant shooting to be had this season for you mate.
  16. As suggested if the birds arent there you cant decoy them. As is always the case I dont think there is necessary a "one size fits all approach". I have found that a rough u shape with 50% or so facing into the wind is a good starting point (10 shells and 3 full bodied) but just keep moving things around and watch the birds reaction. There are some seriously experienced pigeon shooters on here (I am not one) who will give a better account (take a look at some of PC, Jdog, Motty etcs posts) Now that you have the bug you will itching to get out again...and again..and (you get my point). .
  17. I would go with the e-mail of thanks as PC Morgan is a good bloke. I am one for complaining when I have poor service but also thanking people when I get good service.
  18. I also recently purchased a SXP (black shadow). Cant fault the gun though after shooting a sbs for years I am struggling a little with accuracy. Stupidly I cant hit stationary objects but can hit the "difficult" shots. The gun cycles nicely and is good value for the money.
  19. Ignoring personal views if it is lawful to kill something, and it has a quick and humane death, then the age, and type of animal is to a degree irrelevant. I have stated that I am not one to want to shoot certain animals (leopard, lion etc) but this is down to my own personal views. I do not object to the killing of such animals in the right context as long as it is done humanely.
  20. Good offer mate, hopefully somebody will take you up on it soon.
