  1. So a biased research paper in 2015 is the cause for all this? Deborah J. Pain1†, Ruth Cromie1 & Rhys E. Green2,3 1 Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge, Gloucester GL2 7BT, UK 2 Centre for Conservation Science, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, The Lodge, Sandy, Bedfordshire SG19 2DL, UK3 Conservation Science Group, Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, Downing Street, Cambridge CB2 3EJ, UK Not backed by any proof Broad estimates indicate that in the UK in the order of 50,000-100,000 wildfowl (c. 1.5-3.0% of the wintering population) are likely to die each winter (i.e. during the shooting season) as a direct result of lead poisoning. For migratory swans, this represents a quarter of all recorded deaths. Wildfowl that die outside of the shooting season will be additional, as will those that die of causes exacerbated by lead poisoning. Yet they also say that many thousands of game birds eat lead pellets on shooting estate. But they don't seem to die? Estimates of mortality for terrestrial gamebirds in the UK are likely to be less accurate and precise due to fewer studies, but we estimate that about 600,000 terrestrial gamebirds are likely to have ingested gunshot at any one time and many times more throughout the shooting season. All birds that ingest lead gunshot may su er some welfare e ect, and a proportion of them, perhaps of the order of hundreds of thousands, are likely to die from lead poisoning each year. Are you sure they are not mixing up lead poisoning and dying after being shot with lead?
  2. So does that mean since the lead ban 20 years ago the numbers have stayed the same? I think the research should be (if true) where the lead poisoning in wildfowl is coming from? How can BASC allow statements like this to be even be submitted without serious statements of complaint? But you will see from this the evidence that BASC are spouting is not supported by the ISSF who have submitted a great file in support on keeping lead.Maybe they should support their members like the ISSF for theirs! The report below gives scientific analysis that steel shot could be worse for the environment so why are BASC pushing it? ISSF-ECHA-comments.pdf
  3. This worked for me. Remove the middle bead if you have one. Make the bead or the end of the different from a white or brass bead while you adjust. Coloured tube bead I used to use. Your eye will pick up both then in the same sight picture.
  4. Speaking from recent experience of a good friend who is a keeper, he became suspicious about things being mentioned by a local policeman about some of his movements and his times he was leaving his house. Knowing that none of this could be seen from any vantage points or without driving a good way into the estate he spoke to his boss as it was making him feel uneasy. They paid for an investigator to investigate what was going on, a total of 48 stealth cameras were located from various parts of the estate including around his house, all state of the art with sim cards in them. No traceability of ownership or who had installed them. In the year before this he had been subject to 3 police searches of his home, buildings and vehicles. All clear. These are the lengths various groups are going to in an attempt to get evidence. I have been shown photos using thermal of people hiding 24/7 around certain nests with cameras. The footage of this alleged crime with the Goshawk involves very sophisticated cameras which are able to be remotely zoomed or this was actually filmed by a person hiding close to the trap, there are 2 or 3 people who have the skills to do this working for Raptor groups including an ex SAS soldier who was last seen on an estate in Scotland 3 weeks ago caught by a stealth cam close to a Harriers nest. I will also say that the Raptor groups do also have the knowledge, the people and the desire to stage the whole scenario as seen in this film, and as no actually footage of the Goshawk being killed only put in a bag I do question this bit of filming. The Goshawk could easily have been removed very much alive and released elsewhere in the whole set up as it was filmed.
  5. My latest forms stressed it was not you asking the Dr to verify you but the police asking the Dr to agree to inform them of any historic issues, and you are agreeing for the police to have a marker on your medical file so the Dr is then legally to disclose any issues to the police.
  6. My last 2 FAC renewals have both raised questions about ammo usage. My argument is that my .222 for foxes and roe is 1 bullet 1 kill so why would I be shooting 100 bullets a year to justify keeping it? As for my .22 we have very few rabbits so not getting the usage it did and when the population increases I will fire more. I gave up my 17 HMR earlier this year so wasn't an issue. All ammunition in my possession was counted and deducted against what I had bought and they worked out my yearly average. I've asked for a variation from .17 to .308 for boar shooting and explained this will only be used abroad of trips and I have no idea how many will be used on each trip but I need to have enough to last the whole trip as I won't be able to purchase any abroad. The next question was can you provide the names of the estates you intend to shoot on when you go abroad to prove you need the rifle? Or do you think you might want to buy a day on the reds to make it easier to justify. I politely declined the offer as I have no desire to go crawling through tick riddled heather on the side of a mountain haha! I also argued that the purchase record being a usage indicator is flawed and could actually increase illegal stockpiling as people are scared that not buying is showing as non usage. Nothing to stop anyone going and buying a couple of boxes every 3 months from a RFD. Just need to go out every few months a rezero the rifles.
  7. Had it a few times, peregrines, buzzards, sparrowhawk and a fox come into the pattern using plastic and dead bird decoys. Always give myself a pat on the back if I have managed to fool these into believing it is a real pigeon feeding.

  9. The reason so few people use it is simply the fact that BASC hardly ever take on any members cases anymore!
  10. Cheers. Defeats the purpose of a fully degradable cartridge.
  11. I'll be honest that doesn't look like plastic. It look like densely compressed card at the base. I stand to be corrected. I can't find out from any website either way so it might be worth a call to Hull to verify.

  13. Surely paper cased cartridges are biodegradable?
  14. In Scotland we still have a 5 mile drive restriction in place for recreation. I'm doing my renewal at the moment and I asked the question if I went clay shooting, it would be at the discretion of the officer who stopped you but if you were reported your renewal process would come to a halt! She reminded me as a licence holder you agree to uphold the highest standard of the law and you have to cleaner than clean! Even after 36 years!
  15. Having switched to 18.4 bore to use fibre last season the difference is notable from my previous 18.7 bore using fibre! Using plastic on clays I would say you have almost gone up a choke size the pattern is that much tighter! As for lead I'll not be entering into any volountry agreement!
  16. I took mine recently, the lovely receptionist said due to Covid the Drs were not doing any not essential paperwork so she refused to accept it! I put it in an envelope posted it under the door when they were closed! Stating the name and contact details of my FEO asking them to contact them if their were any problems. And that it was a Police Scotland Request for Information. My FEO said she will take over and chase it from their end. So far no invoice either.

  19. Here you go guys seems to be all cleared up. https://www.cpsa.co.uk/news/coronavirus-covid-19/2020/05/14/cpsa-guidance-for-grounds-to-re-open/5412 The following email was sent to all CPSA clubs, grounds, and trade members on 14 May 2020, stating that the CPSA has now had the necessary assurances to recommend the re-opening of clay-shooting grounds, which will be of interest to all clay-shooters in England: Dear Clubs, Grounds, and Trade Members, Regarding the CPSA’s position on the opening of clay shooting grounds following the easing of restrictions from the 13th May for outdoor sports activities: Over the past 48 hours we have been working with the Government, Police and other bodies to get the confirmation we needed under the latest Government guidance that it is possible to start shooting recreationally again within England. Therefore, as the National Governing Body for the Sport of Clay Target Shooting in England, we are now satisfied that we can start a phased return to clay shooting with initially pay & play/practice and a return to competitive registered shoots in time. Shooting grounds can re-open when they are ready and our members are now able to participate and enjoy the sport of clay target shooting recreationally while all following strict CV19 safety protocols and guidance. Importantly, we have now also had confirmation from our insurers that our members are fully insured after considering the new guidance to get out and enjoy their sport again. We have already issued comprehensive guidance to grounds to assist with their planning to implement the strict social distancing and safety measures to protect their staff, the shooters and our sport. 20. As Lancer says, it's that rogue element with an agenda put in places of authority that will be the downfall in interpretation. We have them impounding £10k Superbikes, taking your guns and licence is even easier. Will be a long time before they do any appeals or listen to rational arguments by you or BASC if you trust them to take on your case, even then before all this my mate was 18 months before he got his back. That was just for verbal allegation the police decided to take issue with and investigate. He was never charged, never interviewed never even told what the alleged allegation was. Once they were satisfied in was not true they gave him his tickets and guns back. In that 18 months, he lost his job, home and relationship. No redress no come back nothing. Until something is in black and white on Government headed paper my guns are staying in my cabinet!

I Would advise the upmost caution despite what BASC says!
  22. Lancer they know people as do BASC who have had their licences revoked during lockdown, what they are advising is until clarity in writing that shooting of any kind is permitted they are advising their members not to risk non essential travel with a gun in the car which is still the current advice. If you are going out for pest control on request of the landowner that is different. They still seem 100% sure recreational shooting is covered!
  23. https://www.cpsa.co.uk/news/coronavirus-covid-19/2020/05/12/cpsa-statement-on-the-opening-of-grounds-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic/5411 The quote I posted was copy and pasted from Nichola Heron's Facebook page who is on the board of the CPSA, nothing I wrote.
  24. Two Schools of thoughts. Clay Shooters please be patient. Don’t add to the revocations that have already taken place. We are not the quiet games of golf or fishing which are either solo, twosome, threesome, or foursomes. Non-essential travel is still an issue hence the increased fines. Add a gun in the car and you have problems. We (CPSA) have asked for further clarification so that we can give sensible advice to grounds. There are still no registered competitions and will not be for some time yet. Please protect your licence by staying safe and following the guidelines.
