  1. As has been alluded to, cost of living is a complex calculation, and you'd do well to look beyond the headlines. If you're a pensioner, you don't care about income tax (probably...) but do care about medical costs. Famously, some doctors who moved from the UK to Australia for double their salary, but utterly failed to consider the cost of living can be more like 2.2 times the UK. Worrying that someone smart enough to put themselves through medical school is seemingly incapable of a bit of basic research, but there you go. Also remember the UK is seriously talking about abolishing non-dom Status, so it would appear you'll likely have to give up your citizenship too, unless you fancy paying tax twice on your income. Finally, there are plenty of specialist firms out there catering to these new 'digital nomads' who can set you up in another country; it used to be that these services were only available for high net worth individuals, but slowly this kind of expertise is trickling down to us mere mortals.
  2. There are a lot of FEO's interpreting the Home Office Security Guidance as they see fit, would probably be more accurate. Indeed, arguing with the FEO over a cabinet installation has always seemed like a strange hill to die on to me. Apparently one FEO in A&S doesn't like concrete anchors and insists on expanding bolts. How he's supposed to be able to tell the difference once fitted I don't know. Presumably the concern there is that your cabinet could then be removed using nothing more than a handsaw to cut through the joists? Ok you might get some local roof collapse...but only if your thief is a bit slow...
  3. Fair point 😁 Only question will be whether I can not take the bait again... 🤣 But to head this off at the pass...I refer you to BASC's FAQ section (again, for England):
  4. Been standard procedure for Royal Mail since the pandemic. Am surprised sending cash via RM, regardless of tier of delivery, meets Tesco's risk/reward or acceptable loss threshold. I would suggest not giving them your business again Without wishing to pry into your financial arrangements, you should investigate the myriad of travel-friendly debit cards. Revolut, Monzo etc. Carrying large amounts of FOREX is unwise and frankly unnecessary in 2024.
  5. Nieve is the less common/anglicised spelling of the Irish girls name Niamh. I didn't grow up playing rugby so am not into dressing up in drag 🤣 If you think I'm being naïve, then that's your opinion. I on the other hand think there is a world of difference between a recommendation and a requirement. To be quite honest, if you're that worried, why not give up your perms to a younger shooter, who will read and comply with the GLs as he sees fit? You clearly seem to worry excessively and are, frankly, inventing hurdles where none exist. This in itself would be fine, if it weren't for the fact you insist on posting them on a public forum and muddying the waters for new shooters. Care to cite an example? I can't think of one. In fact, most of the complaints on here with respect to, say, firearms licencing are precisely the opposite, in that the Home Office security guidance is not law and police forces interpret it as they see fit. To which my response is 'be careful what you wish for'. Which particular condition do you find particularly onerous? If the GL's didn't state the following, for instance, Wild Justice's lawyers would be all over it like a cheap suit;
  6. This. Obviously with the exception of Magpies in Wales.
  7. Am I missing something - Why wouldn't you take them up on their offer? Even if you've lost faith in the product, you'll get a repair/replacement, presumably at no cost to you? Not bad for an out-of-warranty budget gun. You can always move it on/gift it to a young person.
  8. They all last for years if you don't put them in the dishwasher, and hand wash sparingly. Failing that, whatever you think looks good at your local TK Maxx
  9. Sigh. I know I shouldn't bite, but nevertheless. Assuming for a minute you're talking about England, GL 42 States: Not a requirement. A recommendation. Please stop posting untruths on a public forum. Not only can 'antis' read this, but also beginners. There's enough FUD out there already.
  10. Please could you enlighten us & provide a link where that is stated, and in which country that applies?
  11. Per this 'ere reddit: The disk drive icon is the install file. Once you've done the above, delete the disk drive.
  12. Might just be what our IT dept. does, but I've found W11 quite restrained recently. The UX can still be gawd awful, a retro-grade step from XP (though it's still mostly there if you look: start, run, 'msconfig'). Presumably, you mean try to run windows programs under an emulator? Certainly would agree with that; fortunately there are many alternatives these days for most tasks. Unless it's special bit of hardware to talk to some obsolete software, you shouldn't need to emulate? Excellent. Am sure you'll like it. To be honest, I'm finding the OS matters less and less, stuff these days is far better at 'just working', I would suggest installing your current browser of choice though, whether that's Chrome or Firefox.
  13. Many people, including BASC's guidance on their website, disagrees with the above. Crack on. You mean because it's a Sunday? If there is a god, I'm hell-bound anyway, shooting on a Sunday will hardly matter come the day of reckoning. I do try an avoid banging away near the small number of houses on my perm around Sunday lunchtime, but roost shooting as we heard towards dusk? Crack the heck on.
  14. Bought a Macbook air with the M2 chip back in September. So far it's had very light use. Appears to cope well with the occasional bit of 3d CAD (Fusion) and video editing. No issues given I use a Windows Laptop for work. If you use keyboard shortcuts a lot, you may struggle a bit at first as some are different. Other than that, most applications are exactly the same as on Windows. Out of the box, far less unecessary cruft and nonsense than a windows machine.
  15. Possible yes, but I suspect you'd spend more on hardware to turn said drive into an NVR than a suitable camera would cost. By all means if you want a project, but I'd suggest just stump up for a contract-free camera like I've linked to above, and with the time saved go out shooting instead...
  16. Owwww much?! https://amzn.eu/d/gEZsjpZ £79 with the ‘voucher’, no contract required. You may need a PoE power supply (£12ish) if you don’t already have one.
  17. Exactly how many league tables and performance metrics, showing the UK bouncing along the bottom of treatable cancers amongst developed nations, will it take to convince you? We are literally rationing treatment in this country, whilst specialist centres paid for by the taxpayer sit closed due to administrative not-give-a-****ery. I'm glad you got lucky in the treatment lottery, there are many others less fortunate than you. What? We don't begrudge him treatment, we want *some* treatment to be made available to the rest of us. The metaphorical stick is beating politicians of all colours and NHS management, not Charles. The lack of funds excuse will not wash any longer. The UK population seeing how cancer treatment should work* in their head of state, could finally be the catalyst needed to sharpen the metaphorical pitchforks. That famous queue for NHS dentistry on the news the other day was in Bristol, still counts as England. *Although, we could simply ask...anyone from any other Western European nation.
  18. How long ago was this? I was under the impression that a) breweries especially had tightened up on this b) the cylinders don't just contain CO2 anyway And yes, to the OP's point, my hobbyweld cylinder was £70 deposit and about £36 to fill, from memory. The market though is more competitive than it used to be, I would suggest really what you need is a supplier local to you, who opens on a Saturday! Nothing worse than running out of gas mid-project and they're only open during business hours.
  19. Indeed, the rich will always have access to better care, that's inevitable. If the UK's head of state receiving cancer treatment finally, belatedly, lights a fire under the Brits' rear to demand better (and not just by chucking ever more money at the problem), bring it on.
  20. Absolutely not. We're currently busily engaged killing people who've paid handsomely for care they are not receiving. Don't care a fig about Charlie, wish him well and all, but frankly if his predicament serves to (finally) ignite some righteous anger amongst the British people about the sheer incompetence of their lavishly funded health service not providing healthcare, all the better. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-12706031/So-war-cancer-oncologist-accuses-Government-breathtaking-incompetence-3-state-art-treatment-centres-remain-unused.html We can't even have the treatment centres we've already paid for, for chrissakes.
  21. Yes, I have the 8 gun version, had it since 2018. So far no issues, and it's moved with me twice in that time. Both FLO's who've seen it made positive noises, for what that's worth In the era of the cordless angle grinder, we're only talking about delaying a thief anyway. I have a brattonsound 3 gun next to it, and I know which one I prefer. It ain't the brattonsound.
  22. Nope, you were right the first time. With Scully on this. Don't ask them. Long as you can physically fit them all in, you're sound. I currently have more shotties than my nominal capacity and nobody's mentioned when I've spoken to my local force. So far. Don't confuse this with police forces' varying requirements for an alarm above 'x' number of guns. There you will need to fall into line*, as advised by your force. So in Avon and Somerset, above 6 guns you need an alarm, and a monitored alarm above 12. Your results may vary. *I suppose in theory you seek judicial review on this, but I personally wouldn't choose to die on that hill.
  23. 6% of all licence holders are female. More people in shooting can only be a good thing. I'd suggest it's better to concentrate your resources where you can make the most difference. I also don't buy the idea that BASC (or any other organisation) is incapable of campaigning on multiple fronts, that somehow sorting a few ladies events means they can't be responding to HSE lead consultations or other work. FWIW: My ex-partner did join one of these lady-only clubs - she found it a bit clique-y and too "daddy's estate" for her taste, she preferred to come to our straw-baler clay shoot, or for us to occasionally go to Mendip as a couple. No interest in game. I think the BASC (or other org) overseeing some support between various clubs and commercial operations and providing guidance/best practice has got to be a good thing.
  24. If it’s a series 5 L200 it will take any double DIN headunit with the appropriate adapter frame+bezel available online from the bay of plenty for a few pounds.
