  1. I wouldn’t worry. When (if) it finally arrives you probably won’t like it and won’t keep it long.
  2. Maybe I’ve led a sheltered life, but when somebody gets out of his car in the morning and the first thing he does is take out his gun and drop two cartridges in before plonking it across his shoulder and then starting to discuss plans, etc., quite frankly it worries me and I don’t want to shoot with him. Your view may differ.
  3. My issue with my RFD friend was that, during the rough shoot day, he kept his gun loaded, broken over his shoulder, when he WASN’T rough shooting. That is, standing around, making plans, crossing fences, ditches, eating, drinking and all the other times during a shooting outing when the gun should not be loaded.
  4. I blow mine out with a compressor, then dry naturally or if in a hurry warm them with a hair dryer.
  5. Good post! Especially the last paragraph.
  6. I have been known to do that myself, but I have never bothered to make it look accidental.
  7. I had labradors for nearly forty years before I was given a cocker pup, then two years later I was given another one. To be fair, both cockers trained much easier than I expected, and certainly much easier than my current lab. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another cocker tomorrow.
  8. I have no concerns about electric vehicles. I have simply decided that I’m not having one.
  9. Could you expand on that statement, please. Baffled.
  10. Sorry Jim, but if I’m going to hold your gun whilst you cross a fence you can take the cartridges out, right out, not just drop the barrels.
  11. He balanced the gun no handed whilst eating and drinking! I have to disagree with your second paragraph. That is a totally unacceptable way to carry a gun, despite the fact that otherwise his shooting is very safe. Would you find it acceptable for him to be walking round a clay ground like that? Of course not, and there is no excuse for it in the field either. The day itself was varied with plenty of shooting. I can’t remember the bag unless I search old diaries, but I think four of us shot nine or ten different species.
  12. That’s the badger! Was £59.95 when I bought mine.
  13. I have had a Bushwear single man chair hide for years. Very good bit of kit. Not too heavy. Walk into position, remove from bag, pull the camping chair arms apart to erect the seat and fold the hide over like a hood. Sit down and zip the front to required height. I use a short bipod stick as a rifle rest. The hide is waterproof and your weight stops it blowing away. Mesh windows each side with magnetic blinds. Works for deer and foxes, must work on squirrels. Mega comfy. And it is easy to put back in it’s bag.
  14. Two seasons ago I had a day’s rough shooting as a guest. My host loaded his O/U as he left his car.and placed it broken over his shoulder, where it stayed like that for the rest of the day, even throughout elevenses. I declined his invitation last season. The man is an RFD.
  15. I too have bought cars like that. Take the deal, make one payment then clear it. The dealers get a commission from the finance company for selling the loan. I have even asked for a share of their commission for agreeing to buy.
  16. I have never believed there is any such thing as interest free credit. Somebody is paying for it.
  17. Since 1992 I have loaded thousands of rounds of .308, .22Hornet, .222. 7x57, and .375 H&H on a Lee single stage press. I can detect no wear anywhere .
  18. I’ve rented worse places than that for a week’s holiday!
  19. Now where have I heard that conversation before?
  20. Agreed. But that is far too simple for folks on here, many of whom seem to need a different choke and a half shot size (quarter in some cases!) variation for every different shot or 2 yard range difference.
