At least we can agree on that. I have three Leups and a Schmidt and Bender. Two of the Leupolds were bought new, one in 1989, the other, my newest scope, in 1998. The other Leup and the Schmidt were both secondhand and the Leup dates from the ‘80’s. The Schmidt is ex-FC from the ‘90’s. I have never had a single issue with any of them, despite rough use both here and in Africa.

I hate the smell of fish so much I can’t even open a tin of sardines for the dog without throwing up. I don’t even like to sit at the same table as someone eating fish. Aged twelve, I puked all over the biology teacher when she made me stick my fingers through a fish’s gills after I had told her why I was not prepared to do it.

Nearly all the older springers with leather washers were expected to burn a little oil with every shot. Nowt wrong with neatsfoot, I have used it myself. But I prefer mineral oil.

I don’t own any Hawke products, but I have, rightly or wrongly, formed the opinion they are not very good because nearly every post about them tells of returns, faults and repairs.

I don’t possess a pair of trainers or a tracksuit. I went to a family barbecue a few weeks ago. I was amused to notice that out of about thirty people I was the only one not wearing trainers.

I think Countryman of Derby does it.
