I was after the same recently and after some researched settled on a nice used late model Carl Zeiss Jena 8x30 from Ebay for £100. I'm not expert but the quality looks very good in both build and picture.

I think you've got to apply some common sense, if your not walking far down the road and its out of the way you will most likely be ok with the gun out of the slip. If it's a busy road then put it away, save yourself the hassle.

You can easily 'pop' the locking ring off the Opinel's by opening the blade against it when its rotated to a position which blocks the blade.

People with the 455! Did you fit just the spring or the roller / bush/ shim thingy as well? The instructions state that you will die if you do hence I haven't... I went for the middle spring and it is better, however I do feel a bit ripped off considering that from the £15 bag of parts all I needed was a spring that probably cost less that 5p!

Just put your application in and stop worrying. If you have a need for the rifle, the land is suitable and you're not a nutter you will be ok. I had .22 and .17hmr first time and I see no reason why other people shouldn't. If you're applying for a 308 first time then chances are it's going to be a no but all this rubbish about FAC air first then rimmies is a load of ************

How big are your permissions?

Have a look a Sinn, made in Germany with Swiss movements. Very good quality and you get slightly more for your money than the Swiss offerings. I would also echo the post above!
