  1. I use 3.5" Gamebore in my Supernova. You know you've fired them but I wouldn't say they're particularly uncomfortable, the Supernova is fairly heavy though.
  2. I have one but hate the way it clings to my mouth every time I breathe. Invariably resort to my old green woollen balaclava which serves as hat (when rolled) and face cover.
  3. I've never been a fan of putting more hoops in the way either, but I'm reluctantly coming around to the view that some basic training should be provided. I was fortunate to have a father who shot and who instilled in me a basic knowledge of guns, and particularly safety around guns, at an early age; besides teaching me that the dog came first, the gun second and me last after a day's sport. I have done what I can to pass these values on to my own sons. Increasingly these days we seem to have people coming in to shooting who have no such background and who demonstrate a quite appalling ignorance of even the most basic elements of the sport and/or the equipment involved and, in some cases, a disregard for the traditional respect for the quarry etc. that all true fieldsportsmen hold. I think something along the lines of the old BASC Proficiency award would address the ignorance and might deter some of those who are approaching the sport for the wrong reasons.
  4. +1. A friend of mine was suffering regular misfires until he stopped using WD40 to clean up cartridges - since then he's had no problems with the same gun and cartridge combination.
  5. I've had a pair for a couple of seasons now. Only lightly used as I avoid waders whenever I can, but I've been really pleased with them. I think they come in two different grades/weights of material and mine are the heavier version.
  6. After several years of use I had a series of small holes in the neoprene parts of mine. I sealed these with Stormsure - seems to have worked and I'm hoping they'll see this season out now.
  7. I've always thought of AYA guns as being of good quality but I bought a No.4 (new) back in the 80's that was a complete horror, obviously a Friday afternoon gun! Ended up p/xing it against a Beretta 686L game gun in 1986, which I still have to this day and will never sell.
  8. Seems to me the game dealers could quite easily solve this by insisting that any wildfowl that they buy in are tagged, with date/supplier/place of origin etc. Simple check to ensure that the information on the tag corresponds with where the payment is going and Bob's your uncle - traceability! Combine this with Marsh Man's suggestion of scanning and the culprits would soon be outed. With the current growth in customers' interest in meat traceability they might even find it a good marketing tool.
  9. Beretta Outlander and Hevishot (if you don't mind the cost), or a Winchester SX3 will give you a 3.5 inch chamber which will allow you to use the 42gm Gamebore Mammoth in steel.
  10. Don't Countrywide charge £15 for delivery whether to home or store though?
  11. According to a number of US websites the A300 synthetic can be adjusted for length of pull between 13" and 14.5", according to which/whether spacers are fitted.
  12. We flew back from Majorca last year in a Thomson Dreamliner, I think they were using it to introduce the aircraft to some of their staff. Nice environment with plenty of leg room in economy. It was very quiet to travel in, every time the flaps operated you could hear them and when the undercarriage came up/down it was very noticeable. A little unnerving but caused I'm sure by the extraordinary quietness and by our seats being around the wing area. I'm not keen on flying but I enjoyed this flight and it cut quite a bit of time off what was already a short journey.
  13. Quite a few Teal on the Axe estuary last weekend.
  14. Plenty of choice if you go down to 28g. There's only about 20 pellets difference between 28g 7's and 30g 7's and both have significantly more pellets than a 30g load of 6's.
  15. SwannDri Ranger or Bison Bushcraft Guide shirt
