  1. Brilliant result, worth the effort, well done.
  2. Well done, result. It's good that you were not afraid to move to improve your sport.
  3. I carry a mooring spike I found on the canal when fishing and a hammer with a blade on its back edge. I make the centre hole first and mark the other three and then make them with the spike. I also use it for the hide poles. The blade on the hammer I use to improve the stance in the hide.
  4. Well done for sticking at it. With all the wet weather up north have the birds moved south for the better weather?? We have some cut rape with no birds at all and others covered. The 18 pigeon I shot yesterday when I was crow bashing all had rape in them and the farmer said there was no rape for five miles in that direction , so they are moving good distances to feed.
  5. We have always used thawed birds. If the birds are veering off move the position. Remember that to decoy is bring birds within shooting range. The magnet is to improve visual attraction , move it down wind and put stand ups at the start of your pattern , if you get it right they will land at the head and will sometimes mate with your decoys
  6. I use Fioncchi Pigeon with 1/4 and 1/2 fixed choke.
  7. I had a call this morning to go and try and thin out some more corvids, set the decoys next to a small spinney and waited. In the first hour two came and paid the price, considered moving but noticed a combine started working two fields away and this lifted a flock of crows and jackdaws from then on they kept coming. The pigeons came over the spinney nice and high and they were to good the let pass.I met the farmer in the yard as I left and he said he had been watching me with his binoculars its agood job that I didnot increase the tally of 98 crows and jackdaws and 18 pigeon. For those who are interested in the figures I shot from 12.00 to 17.00 and used 150 shells.
  8. Well done Dave, you stuck at it got the result. The thunder was only The Gods trying to spoil your day and save the birds???
  9. Well done , I believe what you put into it , you get out of it. Over twenty odd years you loose one farm and then you gain two. As Dave K said " never give up" you deserve some good luck mate.
  10. Good result, well done, that will keep the freezer busy.
  11. Hi cocker3, we do not check our ratio normally but over this last weekend we carry 150 each and we ran out on both days. In the past if it is going to be a mega day we go back to the disco for more. These days we restrict ourselves to help transportation off the field and also freezing. Thanks for your comments.
  12. Well done, good write up and good result.
  13. Excellent day for being in the wrong position. Go get at them again.
  14. Hi Ben, we saw you on Saturday pull in the gate but in my post they would not decoy and we had to move on due to a phone call. Well done for your result, good bag , try not to cramp your stile in the future .
  15. Well done, great result. Keep the lad keen and enjoy it.
  16. Hi folks, I was trying to find a shooting picture that I posted a while back. It consisted of a setup showing a pattern. When i look at the shooting pictures thread. I can only view the most recent 10 pages. Am I doing something wrong? as I can see 120 pages on talk from the field for example. Any help would be appreciated.
