  1. Well done for going out , you won't shoot pigeons with your feet up the fire . Great result for making the effort.
  2. Well done for looking back at old stubble, good result.
  3. Well done Lads, you managed to get amongst them and had a great week end . as you say it will soon be autumn and they will be spread over the oak trees in the Forest of Arden, but thats pigeon shooting. Well done again.

  5. We rang Alan in Saturday as we had seen a mega bean field but we knew it was in your area did you have a look?? PC
  6. Well done, good result. I find crow shooting more challenging than pigeon shooting so you did a good job.
  7. Friday saw us heading out for the wheat stubbles, we had seen a recently combined field in the week with birds on it . They hold a car boot on the next field on a Saturday morning so we had to shoot it Friday, as we arrived there were about a hundred birds on it but none joining we decided the set up and give it ago. We had just got it all set up and it started to rain with a heavy drizzle and then the wind changed direction we had four birds return in thirty minutes which we shot but the pattern was the wrong way to wind , so we decided to move. As we were leaving the field the heavens opened and it poured down . We drove around a few wheat stubbles with no birds and then found a field with a few flighting in with the drizzle so we set up. The wind was from the northeast and it went realy cold but they kept feeding, we ended the day with one hundred and ninetyfour so it was a great end to the day despite getting all the gear soaking wet. Saturday saw us heading to a bean field that we had been watching for the past four weeks with birds dropping in on the standing beans . As we approached the field our hearts sank as we could see that it had been turned over, it had birds feeding on it so we went to see the Farmer. Yes we combined it and ploughed it all on Wednesday, he said carry on if you think it's worth it. We will be seeding it today and tomorrow, so we set up and went for it . For some reason the birds would not decoy at first so we went back to basics just twelve real birds no magnet, flyers etc these we put on spikes they came within range but not confident. I had to attend to a call of nature so wandered off with my roll of tissue during which I found a recent hide position so this proved it had been shot perhaps Friday. The sun was a real pain as we had to put a back and side on the hide to shield us from the very bright sun this had the effect of giving you snow blindness as you looked out from the shade of the hide to the bright field. The birds came constantly all day and we packed up at 17.00 and picked up two hundred and fifty one birds so it was a great end to the day and the bonus was that the sun dried out all the hides and bags etc.
  8. We shot 194 yesterday in constant rain and drizzle on wheat stubble .
  9. I shot three in one day some years ago and put the picture in the letters page of Sporting Gun. We had a few replies saying they had seen others around the country.

  13. Well done good result, we have self seeded rape up here but no birds on it at all, they are all on the stubbles.
  14. I had 15 on cradles and the rest on spikes, I had 6 on floaters from all directions.
  15. Started out on Friday at 09.00 with DB and headed out looking for wheat stubble's, picked up on a flightline and followed it for four miles and it lead us to a deep valley with birds coming from all directions to two ten acre bean stubble fields. We have shot this farm in the past so we drove to the farmhouse and asked permission only to be told our regular shooter is coming out this afternoon. Dejected we set off again and covered seventy miles looking, only finding small numbers fliting about. We saw some birds flighting over a high ridge all spooked so we drove up and found the farmer finishing off his wheat. He said he would be finished in half and hour so we set up, this was 14.00 and we shot till 17.00 and picked up ninety four. Saturday saw us heading for the bean stubble and as we walked up the drive the farmer came out and before we could say anything he said " I've got shooters coming out today" so we politly informed him that we had only come to see him to inform him that we would be shooting the grass field next to the beans which belonged to another Farmer. So we drove down the valley and stood on the edge of the the beans and put a shot up. This lifted a good number of birds and we managed five high birds crossing the grass, as it had been shot the day before ( Allegedly) we waited for them to return after thirty minutes nothing came back. So we got back in to the car and left as we did the bean farmer passed us in the road and blanked us, we popped into the grass field farmer and let him know we were leaving and that we had locked his gate. He told us that the other farmer had come up to check if we had permission? Our farmer had told him that he knew us well and we could go any time. Anyway we drove round to a field that we had looked at on our way home last night which they were still working with the combine. Its a very difficult field to shoot with a housing estate on one edge,a road on the other and MOD high security fencing and cameras on the other. We set up as there were plenty of birds passing over the field , with all the working going on it was difficult to shoot as we had to wait for them to pick up the bails and finish combining. It was also frustrating when they parked the security vehicle right behind us inside the perimiter fence watching us shoot , with the Land Rover's windscreen flashing in the sun. we shot from 13.30 and finished at 17.30 and picked up two hundred and thirtyone. So a **** start to the day ended with a cracking result.
  16. Well done, good result enjoy it . Remember what works for another PB
