  1. If it's very still we tend to put two groups out in front of the hide with birds coming from all directions. Then during the day you will find a dominant flightlne and build on that, also reduce the decoys by bringing in the shot birds.
  2. Your right , you may have a farm worth several million but it's your crop that puts cash in the bank. Just imagine a country with all the farms bought by property developers and all our food imported. I was told by a farmer once the cost were a third to plough and seed , a third to fertilise and combine, the last third is profit and that's what the pigeons eat into.
  3. I drove down to Greece this year scanning for pigeons and all the way back. When I was working I did approx 35,000 miles a year and only modified the back end of a lorry once trying to follow a flight line.
  4. DB and myself often walk the field and split and shoot at each other ( not really direct ) to see if the shot hits the far edge. We do this so that we can confirm to the farmer or any complainant that we are safe. In the passed we have been showered with falling shot from other shooters.
  5. Good result, well done for supporting the farmer that will do you a lot of good in farming network.
  6. DB and I take it in turns to shoot and the easiest way to shoot like a lemon is for one of us to say" Don't miss this one". The worst shots are the confident birds as they tend to float in and you end up following them. The best method is to wait till they are in range and MOVE, MOUNT and SHOOT.
  7. Hi Mark, Nice set up, I struggle with six chest freezer's. All the best for a good season.
  8. Well done , the first of many good bags, result.
  9. Well done, a good start to your season. How on earth do you chill and freeze 800 plus birds?
  10. Well done , the first of many.
  11. Great result, the perfect end of the day.
  12. Keep at it it will improve, well done.
  13. We headed out on Friday to the farm that we shot the 93 on the grass before the rain stopped play last weekend. We talked to the farmer and he said that the birds were on both fields of barley. So we watched it for ten minutes and they were crossing the grass as before so we set up on the grass with the wind off our backs. The problem with this was that it was a northerly wind and it meant that we were shooting into the sun which made it difficult at times we finished at 18.00 and picked up off the grass one hundred and fifty eight birds. When we stopped and told the farmer he said that his brother was having prolems at his farm which was twenty miles away, we said that we would look at it on Saturday. 08.00 saw us travelling to this new farm, on the way we saw no birds at all but they do not fly to early in the summer. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and he told us the way to the field. When we got there it was wheat and was as flat as a pancake in places but only twenty or so birds. We watched it for twenty minutes and only a few birds came but they all went down the far edge of the field. We decided to give it an hour but this meant a mammoth treck with the gear. We set up and waited, birds came to our decoys wrong way to wind over our heads but they came in so we decided to stay. During the day birds came to the decoys the correct way but were jinxing. We moved the magnet three or four times to see if this made any difference, it made a slight change but we found the problem when DB had a high crossing bird the feathers came down above us and went into a complete circle with the vortex. The birds were coming in to the decoys and loosing the wind. During the day it became very hot and so we had to put the shot birds into the carp sacks to stop the flyblow. In the picture there is ninety in the first and ten in the second. We packed up at 18.00 and picked up one hundred and sixty two birds. The freezers in the garage are working overtime with over three hundred birds in two days but It's great sport.
  14. He who dares Yickdaz !!! Well done.
  15. Yes, photo bucket for me. Simples !!!
  16. Hi Rich, I set the hide under the tree shot birds coming into the tree so that they dropped below the tree which was clear. The dog would have damaged the crop. I could only take the shots that were coming into the tree.
