cowboy1403
just been on the for sale section and another newbie on there with first post selling something no hello my names is etc.etc. i was just wondering how many pw members there would be if you had to make a meaningful contribution to the forums before the for sale section would be open to them. Bleeh
I'm happy with the way it is to be honest. If you impose a limit on the amout on posts before they can sell stuff, we'd just get a bunch of spammy one-worded posts all the time. cowboy1403
thats why i said meaningful posts.it wouldn`t take many posts to establish wether someone was interested in the sport and hunting or just on to sell stuff.
Lez325
Lots of 1 or 2 post newbies selling stuff on here, as with most forums- they sell it and you never see them again I feel abused Les
cowboy1403
i may be wrong but i thought that the for sale section was added as i bonus to the forum users lets face it it is a very easy way to sell shotguns and firearms compared with having to take it to RFD and leave it with them until sold. henry d
From the pinned topics in the for sale section......... General Advice:Use extra caution when entering into a deal with a member that has: * no post count * no established reputation here * never sold to anyone in our forum before * recently registered on the forum

MPT1
When I joined the forum one of the main reasons was to buy a gun. I've never seen anything from the vendor since on here Has anyone been caught out buying on here?

Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
Only joined in november and found a local guy I know who only posted for sale items. I know he is one of the biggest blagger full off bull luckly I knew him and could stay clear. So there is alot of very geninue sellers but I have always aired on the side of caution when I dont know who they are. 50 posts min is the way forward to stop misuse of this great forum . As for putting future members off if there keen and geninue they would not be put off IMO . I see alot of new member on the Landrovers owners forum one post in the for sale links and never to be seen again. It does not matter really but I think you just get alot of traders use a site to make and sell things for nowt . Same as the guy who I know uses the forum he is a trader hiding as shooter . PWD
50 post may see an increase in posts says ditto or so no real contribution made in that way and it could take just minutes to do 50 posts of that type ...Its a hard call, to make as the mods may see their workload increase ten fold on the delete button ..maybe a time period may be better say no sales adverts till you have been registered for a month or two ...Me I find most of the shooting fraternity are in the main a good bunch , and self monitoring ...the odd t**ss Pot just makes for good reading . PW does have a very good audience though from its sales point of view ( have sold all my guns through here )..so why not make a small charge via paypal ...I would like to sell gundog stuff for instance but putting up contant adverts for free would just be a big no no step over the mark..but if I paid in a dealer section then would that be acceptable , that way traders pretending to be joe soaps could come out the closet
cowboy1403
i agree with over the hill in part,i think a lot of people proberly join a forum in the first place to buy somthing or to get a problem solved which is fine but setting a minimum post number is not the way to go as someone said earlier you just get a load of spam posts its the quality of the posts rather than the quantity.the BBS forum has a good way of doing it that is they vet the first few posts you make before they are posted, but this would put a lot of work on the mods you all cry but not really as there are proberly only a handful of newbie newbie posts a day.just one possible way to go. Ozzy Fudd
I dont care if they join just to sell or buy something. I dont talk to anyone under 3500 posts anyway. (Unless they like corned beef.) you dont talk to me no matter what ah well, who cares? people join sites for different reasons. i joined because i was bored (and am usually on because im bored ), some people join for a bit of info, as soon as they get it you never see them again - surely the more annoying posts would be new members, with one or two posts, looking for permissions? anyway the only thing that does annoy me (slightly) is people putting titles in the sales section like "for sale" (duh, kinda worked that out as its in the sale section ), etc, with no more info - simply because its a pain in the backside trying to remember which post it was that you were interested in buying and it takes ages finding it again
Dunkield
Post count means absolutely nothing, you should just use your common sense. If the item is of value and you don't want to hand money over to stranger then meet them face to face or walk away. I have bought and sold on here, other forums, and on ebay and never had any problems on any of them.
