markm
Got a laptop and it's a few years old, got one of the service agreements but at the moment it is broken more often than it's working, last night a blue screen appeared out of nowhere which said "begin dumping physical memory." I took it back to factory settings and it done it straight away (after sitting around for an hour waiting). Can I kill the lap top so it won't work again, but just looks like it died itself. chandelierman
you might have got a virus that has wiped out the hard drive.I had this happen to me with a sony vaio a few years back.......basicly it was DEAD,it would have cost more to fix it than it was worth. Willxx
Simplest way would be to back up all your important files (to another machine or dvd) and perform a clean install of the operating system, sounds more like a problem with windows than a hardware issue, in my experience its a pain in the backside but generally a clean install works wonders. Just for arguments sake though if say a heavy item fell on it or someone stood on it while it was open and smashed the screen it would be out of action for good or at least would need to be rebuilt (a new laptop is only about £300 so probably not worth working on), if this wasn't covered by the service agreement it may be on your home insurance - obviously not a recommended course of action though :yp:

Kilvy
you got accidental damage cover on your house insurance?? Well tbh i've just enqiured about this with my household insurance for the daughters laptop as she dropped it ... £100 excess and loss of 30% no claims discount ... which is equivilant to another £130 a year ... so its going to be cheaper for us to just buy a new one!
