Yo.

One for the geeks to get their claws into here for a whole topic of unreserved hardcore technology porn.

Here's the deal... I now have a car and burning CD's is a pain. I would like to purchase a device in which I can transmit music from an iTouch MP3 player into the FM radio.

How much am I looking at for something that works properly, and I take it wireless is the way to go as opposed to wiring it in somehow?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies regarding the aforementioned geekery.

Bought one from "Micro Direct " for a tenner - one set up it works a treat. Takes SD cards or the input from Player, plugs into lighter socket, set unit and radio to same frequecy and Robert is your mother's brother.

If you are using it for local journeys then any frequency that works is fine. However, if you are planning on a long journey, there is a likelyhood that the frequency you chose will be used by a radio station and this will interupt your signal. I have travelled all over with one of these and it is quite annoying when suddenly a local radio station takes over and replaces your ipod signal. After googling the subject, found that 87 mhz was the one used the least by radio stations. My unit cost 14 quid from fleabay and was advertised as being for an ipod touch.

I have a 2004 clio and a griffin i trip It is pretty good provided you have it positioned quite close to the radio for some reason but if you put it further away it gets a little crackly. While the attachment is small it does not charge the mp3 player so could be an issue if you are planning on using it for hours at a time.

I use an integrated satnav mp3 with fm transmitter in the truck. Though it will work standalone it is much clearer when the

power cable is plugged into the cig lighter socket. Best bit is it will play music and interrupt to give directions. There is other

stuff on it as well games book reader etc all for less than £70

Literally, you can buy one off ebay for £4 which works well.

If you're an audiophile and appreciate quality sounding music then you'll have the music player hardwired into the car. If you're not fussed, go for the wireless transmitter.

Alternatively, wait for the new iPhone and they'll switch on the FM transmitter so you don't need an external device.

Does depend on the model/make of car and air con setup. i had a 2003 Renault with air con and they fitted "solar reflective glass" as part of the air con package - basically glass with a micro-thin layer of iron in it to reflect sunlight. Trouble was it reflected radio signals as well, so my sat nav wouldn't work without an outside aerial, nor would my iTrip, without being almost touching the windscreen at the top near the aerial

Go to currys, ask them if you can try theirs in your car, or alternately, if a mate has one, try theirs first - then buy cheap off fleabay!

they do work like a dream,

most have multi frequency functions so preset your car stereo to a couple of different frequencies which give you static, that way when travelling and you get breakthrough from a local radio station you can change the presets with ease.

if you get one which charges then even better as the fm transmitter will otherwise run of your ipod battery.

I have taken mine to NZ and used in hire cars and with hotel radios. as long as you are tuned to the frequency on the transmitter then bob is your aunties husband.

i would get one that locks in as the connection can be a little flimsy and you do not want it dropping out with cornering!!!

Ive got a belkin that plugs in the fag lighter . It charges the ipod at the same time .It has a digital display on it and searches for the best frequency for you so all you have to do is tune your radio . Worked fine in my Renault Laguna And also in the Saab

Comes with loads of different adapters for different pods

Think it was about £45 from Argos

 I bought a jvc stereo made for ipod for £100 save your £45 and get a decent stereo.I have one of those fm transmitters and they are aweful!!! :good:

I have a Sony that connects and controls the Ipod directly from the head unit, it even has a remote control unit and it was about £70 off t'internet. Save your cash and buy a new head unit, at least one with an auxillary input.
