Evil Elvis
Where i have been walking my dog there is no shooting allowed, there are millions of baby rabbits, the pup almost caught one tonight. Question Is: I have a black widow and some small ball bearings, which will go through a wooden fence, I have killed many coots, and rats with it while fishing and the odd other unmentionable.....can I legally kill bunnies with it? I tried tonight and got within a couple of inches of a couple, didnt actually connect with any.................
SSS
I don't think it is legal EE, not entirely sure. I will get corrected. Always thought catapults were only for knocking over cans ans shooting targets?
Kent Militia
If you happen to get a few by "mistake" well done to you. I seen some of those slingshots they are super deadly and all legal no licences required like this one:

Yes it is legal to kill rabbits with a slingshot but if you don't have permission you would still be poaching. John
njc110381
I'd say training the dog to try harder is the answer here!
Imperfection
Far as im aware, provided your chosen method is humane and you have permission-then theres no reason why not.Theoretically,if you didnt use the correct cartridge when pigeon shooting then this could be regarded as inhumane, but i dont think there are any laws regarding this.Im pretty sure the only thing you are not allowed to use for hunting is a bow or crossbow. al4x
based on the fact there is no shooting allowed I'd suggest it is a very bad idea. If you get seen and reported then its poaching and the end of all your tickets
Cranfield
based on the fact there is no shooting allowed I'd suggest it is a very bad idea. If you get seen and reported then its poaching and the end of all your tickets That sounds about right. If there is no shooting allowed , then someone is probably keeping an eye on the area and you are likely to be seen and reported. Much the same as if you set snares in the area without permission. Also, on the general question of whether its permitted, I am sure there was a case some years ago where a lad was accused of animal cruelty for trying to kill something with a catapult, I think it was a hare. bigt1754
Rabbits form part of the game act. If you don't have permission, then you are poaching. I know this as I am a policeman and worked on a rural team dealing with all sorts of issues, and have much experience in this matter. I wouldn't want you to get in to trouble mate. Also If you have items that are considered to be for poaching (ie caterpault) Section 2 of the poaching prevention act allows a police officer to stop and search, confiscate and arrest if necessary. However if you have permission, then a caterpault is an acceptable method, but very difficult. Hope that helps Bigt Hope that helps
Evil Elvis
I guessed as much, but the reason you can shoot there is that it is a bird sanctuary, theres some rare bird that lives there, used to be allowed to shoot it. It surrounds a rubbish tip.
Evil Elvis
Ok, so if either of the dogs catches a rabbit, which Im sure they will eventually is that legal, phred(the jack) got within inches of one?
al4x
it is still something you could have issues with if it is deemed you're trying to set the dogs on them that in theory is still poaching. Isn't it easier to just stick to shooting them where you're allowed to
bigt1754
Also you should have close control of your dog, ie call him off the chase and get him back to you.

Wattsy
Lol, I shot 10 ball bearings at a can of diamond white tonight at a range of 1o yards......all missed...the bunnys are safe!!! just to let you know hunting with a catapult/slingshot is completely legal as long as you have the landowners permission, are competent enough to be able to kill without causing unneccesary suffering and you intend to kill. there's a bloke on some other forums i go on that makes hunting catapults that shoot .44 cal lead balls at 18ft/lbs
