Billy.
FM I hear what you're saying, but would you/does it flash up on your screen that mouthwash is for over 18's?
Ferret Master
It doesn't flash up for any mouthwash products as far as I'm aware. It does flash up for everything containing alcohol though, knives and even spoons... FM

Fortunately a common sense shopper next to me, leant over and said to security: "Just to let you know, it's not illegal to look at alcohol..." Security subsequently walked away
Gareth0689
I got asked by some jumped up 18 year old in Tesco for ID once. He called security over who asked me to leave when I asked him "Do you have ID" they asked why I asked him and I bluntly told them you have to be 18 to sell alcohol! Left a trolley load of shopping on the belt with a long queue waiting! Haven't been to a Tesco since. This was 18 months ago!
Guest rimotu66
I used to get ID'd buying cigs when I was 18 and booze when I was 20 as I was only a little lad used to get narked but people told me dont worry as it means you will look younger when you are older..... what a load of **** that was.. fluke2
Anyone got a similar thing which you really shouldn't be ID'd for?! Condoms by a sixteen year old in the chemist shop
guest1957
You should have asked them if they were selling the mouthwash under the terms of their alcohol licence, of course they wont have been because it doesn't fall under the terms of the licence. Just rules put in place by people who don't understand entirely what they are doing... p.s. and ID for condoms, not only stupid but irresponsible! If under 16s want to do it, they will, so it is best that they have access to something to stop kids appearing... 955i
I was behind someone in the post office queue today and the woman behind the counter was telling him that he had to get his passport photographs re-done as they would not accept them with him wearing (normal) glasses as they hid part of his face. He said 'Surely I should be wearing them as I will have them on when travelling' to which she replied 'They will just ask you to take them off at passport control'. Couldn't believe the insanity of it
groach1234
It made the local press a few years ago around here when Morrisons ID'd and refused to sell a 75 year old gentleman a bottle of sherry at christmas and there is no way in hell you could have mistaken him for under 18 but he didn't have any photographic ID :hmm: I got reffused Brasso when i was 17 as it is a solvent, not something i was aware of and regularly see people who are easily 25+ get turned down from a bar in town as they don't have their IDs with them but why would they.... Willxx
On holiday in the States this summer just gone my missus was really pee'd off when we read the sign on the checkout which said "Anyone under the age of 40 may be asked for ID when purchasing alcohol" - we had just bought beer and wine and the checkout operator didn't even think about asking her - she hasn't hit the big 4 - 0 yet - its now a very touchy subject! :hmm:
Doc Holliday
Going back to Billy's original post, I use mouthwash and on the odd occaission I've accidentally swallowed some of it leads me to think how desperate someone would have to be to actually drink it to get drunk on it
poppythedog
At the self service checkout in my local Tesco's last week the auto thingamy announced "store approval required" when I scanned 2 bags of dog food! Why?
Cannon
Got hit for ID in Sainsburys for a packet of cigs by some fat mess of a 16 year old who probably wasn't even allowed to sell me them. Got the gf who was standing beside me to buy them then hand them to me in front of the operator On a funnier note though, the self serve checkouts in our work sometimes give commands like 'Please put the item on the scale'. If you lift the item off the scale too quickly, it will say 'Please put the item back'. I couldn't stop laughing when a rather old gentleman got issued with this command and proceeded to put the item back on the shelf whilst mumbling and complaining lol. He then stood and looked at it as if it was going to do something, lifted it up and went through the checkout with it again lol. Priceless! shot shot
The IDing policy in the major supermarkets has gone too far, a friend of mine got turned down for some ale yesterday because his ID didn't have his date of birth. A 20yo University student with a full beard, not that the dumb cow could understand that you have to be 18 to go to uni in the first place And heres a kicker for you, in my local, I've never once even heard a mumbling of the term
Billy.
Apparently Sainsburys will not accept a provisional licence for ID.
JBS
I got asked for ID at our local wilkinson's store whilst trying to buy a sowing kit when i asked what the hell it was for she said it was because it contained scissors that on opening are so small not even a child could get their fingers in to use! They even have those funny rounded ends to stop accidents!!

Billy.
I was thinking that too.... They put an ingredient into White spirit which induces vomiting to stop people buying it for drinking purposes...!
Ferret Master
I got asked by some jumped up 18 year old in Tesco for ID once. Left a trolley load of shopping on the belt with a long queue waiting! Haven't been to a Tesco since. This was 18 months ago! He doesn't need to prove his age for him to sell you drink as that isn't your problem. If he was under 18 he may well need permission from his supervisor to complete the transaction but there is no point calling them over if he hadn't I.D'd you first as they would only do it anyway, so it was just saving time. At the self service checkout in my local Tesco's last week the auto thingamy announced "store approval required" when I scanned 2 bags of dog food! Why? I'm self-scan trained and it was most likely due to a bagging area weighing issue. Possibly if they were 2 decent sized bags a bit of them could be hanging off the edge of the scale or leaning against the side of the checkout. The result would be the scale not weighing the expected weight so it will just request that a supervisor gives it a swipe to say all is OK. Happens all the time when people are buying clothes and put hangers in the bag as well. Got hit for ID in Sainsburys for a packet of cigs by some fat mess of a 16 year old who probably wasn't even allowed to sell me them. Got the gf who was standing beside me to buy them then hand them to me in front of the operator She shouldn't have served you then. If I I.D someone that is trying to buy something and they don't have I.D, then I'm hardly going to sell it to the person with them to hand straight over after the transaction. Apparently Sainsburys will not accept a provisional licence for ID. We accept them. FM Edited October 6, 2010 by Ferret Master
