otherwayup
I spent a very enjoyable day on my first ever driven shoot today (walk one/stand one). To say I was relieved (and pleased as punch) to finally hit something on the last drive would be an understatement. A friendlier and more welcoming bunch of shooting fellows you could not find. My thanks to those PW'ers involved. Otherwayup (Darren)

otherwayup
how you going to cook it? Not sure yet. I think I'm going to look for a simple recipe so I can savour the flavour (never tried Woodcock before).
jimmyh1988
well i had my first woodcock 2day i just quick fried in frying pan then served it on somne toast only used the breast, was out after rabbits with the dog and he came back with a woodcock dont ask me how he got it but it was still alive so i quickly dispatched it as he had wounded it when he caught it but tasted ok so ;-)

RichS
Saw a few Woodcock on the shoot i was picking up on yesterday, a couple were added to the bag but the best bird i saw all day was a Woodcock which jinked its way down half the line without having a feather knocked out of place, fantastic sight. tlennox
The recent cold winds have brought loads of them in over the past few weeks, we usually see about fifty or so in a season on our small rough shoot and yesterday we managed to add a dozen to the bag with one chap accounting for half of them, enjoy mate the best tasting game bird to be found. Blunderbust
Well done Darren, I was witness to the shot and you took it well. We all had a good day and it was nice to shoot with and meet you for the first time. Cheers, Jimmy Edited December 5, 2010 by Blunderbust
demonwolf444
we had 8 yesterday when previously we would only get 4 max mixture of woodcock and snipe, it amazing when they get away, one did and it must have had 10 barrels at it. When was it you had your first Pigeon? and Joseph your son got his first the same day. You will now have to help Joseph get his first Woodcock. otherwayup
how you going to cook it? Ended up doing the Woodcock on Toast recipe which was very good. The port/innards paste spread on the toast was lovely and rich and tasted great (if a bit gritty, must have ******** up removing the gizzard).
