Lloyd90
Figured its about time I joined one of the organisations. Now I trust this membership is for the year ? lol Also as I am only 20 I think I come in as a junior member, so rather than pay £66 I only have to pay £22 Although I will be 21 in february, do I still only have to pay £22 ? Dont want to get the wrong one as then there would be no point in having it!

anser2
There is a very old phrase - If you pay peanuts you get monkeys - and thats very true for our shooting organisations. Go for a speclist shooting organisation and not one that includes all fields sports unless you hunt as well. Otherwise you will find most of your money will be spent on hunting , protecting rural post offices and so on and not shooting. After all at £22 by the time the insurance fee is taken out ( you can get insurance for less than £20.00 off Ebay ) , staff costs and admin there is very little left to be available for the protection of our sport. Its only a sales gimic anyway as you will have to pay the full fee next year anyway. Edited December 5, 2010 by anser2
P~MX
I've been a member of SACS -- Scottish Association for Country Sports, they offer EXACTLY the same member benefits as the other main organisations but their membership costs are a lot less, I think of the top of my head a junior is £17 a year up until they are 21 years old OR they are free if their parents are full members, I pay £30 a year for myself and my son -- not bad eh ! www.ScottishAssociationforCountrySports.co.uk f3
webber
SACS insurance cover may or may not offer the same benefits as BASC. However their membership costs less because they do less; a lot less. webber
steve_b_wales
BASC are certainly not the cheapest, but they are, in my opinion, the best organisation to support and help to protect our sport. They have helped me on more than one occasion to overturn stupid conditions on my FAC. AND, who else spoke out when we had the recent, and past firearm attrocities? Steve. P~MX
I am not rubbishing the BASC in any way -- in fact I have a lot of respect for them, I was just letting the lad know the price of junior membership as cost seemed to be important to him. f3
Mungler
BASC all the way for me. There are other organisations that are cheaper, but as has been said.... monkeys and peanuts, buy cheap buy twice etc etc. Indeed, if you needed a brain surgeon you wouldn't get the Yellow Pages out and phone round a few to see who was the cheapest, you would be looking for the best. Nuff said. Mungler out.
BADFEET
NGO or CA.......I personally chose the CA because I am not a gun only hunter.
Imperfection
Think of it this way. When the tragedy happened in Cumbria-which organisation were doing interviews on tv news trying to bring calm to a chaotic media? BASC for me im afraid.
Popgun
The only people who stand up to protect shooting and gun owners when the anti gun lobby start shouting about banning guns an tightning gun laws is the Basc so do your self a favour and join up now

liamp79
Basc for me too. Think they do a great job!
David BASC
Its very much personal choice, as with many things. Yes BASC costs more and certainly delivers more, simply because we have more resources than others. The BASC insurance package is different form the others mentioned so far on this thread, always check the policy wording to see what you are and are not covered for, and more importantly when the policy will not pay out. This is one reason why some organisations are very cheap BASC have many specialist teams on tap for members to use and of course to fight for your rights to go shooting, but of course these posts need funding, so again this is why some organisations are cheap they dont have to support as many staff. But also look at it this way- BASC membership may cost twice the cost of say CA (at the moment) NGO, or SACS. However; BASC insurance is different it pays out when many others will not. BASC has a firearms team BASC has a gamekeeping team BASC has a conservation team BASC has a stalking team BASC has a wildfowling team BASC has an airgunning team BASC has a woodpigeon team BASC has a gundog team BASC has a shooting standards team BASC has a research team BASC has a press team BASC has a political policy team BASC has a political lobbying team BASC will be publishing its magazine 8 times a year from 2011 All of that for around an extra £30…a year, just an extra £30 a year. AND we will be introducing phased payments in early 2011 so you can spread your payments monthly. As I say its up to you of course, and I accept BASC is not for everyone, but frankly I cant see a better package on offer anywhere for shooters, if you can afford that extra 30-40p a week. Personally I am a member of BASC, CA, Angling Trust, CPRE, GCWT David Edited December 6, 2010 by David BASC
Salopian
I am a member of I think, all the shooting and conservation organisations. I do not at first sometimes agree with some of the things that BASC say or do, but eventually once my red mist has gone away I see the BIG picture. It is not all about ME, it is about US. For that reason I am a member of BASC because they have a voice, they have credability. Many of the BASC troops on the ground are shooting, hawking, fishing people. If they get wind of trouble ahead, you can be sure they will close ranks and fight the good fight on yours and my behalf, because frankly they are defending their way of life. BASC do more for youngsters than any Montesorri kindergarden or other organisation do, all put together. Remember eventually out of children we get adults and adults are voters. I don't see many other Organisation employees posting on here, so David Ilsley must be passionate about his sport and his job. Surely if he was talking a load of tosh, his line manager would rein him in? But he doesn't because David tells you how it is, FACT.
