Wild Boar With .177?

I've seen this video before. The more I watch it the more I think that the shot on the Boar wasn't taken with an air rifle - or at least not a springer.

Look at the impact on the animal, then the debris cloud where the shot strikes. Sorry but I don't believe any air gun could do that, there's just too much disturbance and it appears that there is disturbance from two areas. That would mean an entry reaction and then dust thrown up by an exiting bullet? With an air rifle? Not likely!

this has been talked about in the states also, yeah some fool killed a pig with one i believe. injure enough and one will eventually drop i suppose, show it on TV and some fools will buy them. 1000 fps in a .177 springer and trigger pulls like that they would be lucky to hit a stable block though

cant be real.

The dust kicked off the boar is more than many a CF rifle would do. Anything as light as a 177, even CF would do, in my limited knowledge of boar, a 177 to the shoulder would just make it angry. I doubt an HMR would kick that much dust off the boar and would no way take it down.

I am planning to shoot boar this year and my 243 is not up to the job, so even a very special 177 air rifle, with a very very special marksman would be foolish to even consider the shot, as even if by some miracle it hit something near the surface and delicate (the jugular??) it would not be a clean kill.

I suppose you could kill an elephant with a 177 (used as a club?) with a very well placed shot, one in many million but who knows, it may be possible. But would i use this to advertise a product, not a chance, that is just asking for trouble.

Come on lads don't look at the video but listen to the commentary!!.

The commentary basically says when there aint owt to shoot with the full bore you don't have to stop shooting you could do a bit of plinking to fill out your day and maybe get the opportunity to snot Gordon the Gopher or Mr Bugs.

There is nothing to imply that the Boar has been shot with the air rifle or it would be lawsuit city when some hapless idiot gets steam rollered by a huge tusker.

Mike...

Listening to the commentary it does seem to suggest that BUT the shot where the boar is dropped is shown with him shouldering the air rifle before hand to suggest he is using that, it even has the air rifle sound effect dubbed over it, in my opinion this is very misleading.

The commentator specificaly says Ideal for small game.

Marketing twaddle showing a full bore shot first to get you're attention.

Wotcha All

Some US/Far East 'air-rifles' are available upto 200ftlbs - from recollection 'Condor' is one such manufacturer.

I will try to past up some links when I come across my FFG magazines, which carry advertisements for these

There are U-tube vidoes of medium game including deer taken at average ranges with such 'air-powered tools'.......

Occassionally I do consider testing the reaction of TVP to a variation for one but having moved on to a variety of full-bore perhaps the unnecessary 'examination' has no point.......

Regards
