Geocaching?

Anybody into this? Went out with Peeown for a few hours last week, and then when we got bacj to the car, nature called. I trotted off into the bushes, and on the way back, i noticed a small DPM styled bag tucked into a tree branch. I took it back to the car, and even before we opened it, we both though the same thing, DRUGS :hmm:

Upon inspection, i turned out to be a tub, with a letter explainging about geocaching, and all manner of little trinkets inside. The instructions said please feel free to take something and leave something in return. We filled in the small guest book, and didnt take anything, but we left them a spent Eley Impax No 6 , and signed the log @The Hunters' (should have been blankers  )

Did exactly the same walking the dog down the canal towpath, old ammo box shoved in hedge, opened it up to find a few bits and bobs with the last person in the book being my niece! Left my work pencil for the collection as it was all i had!

Wow, what a catchy title "Geocaching". It conjures up in the mind Matrix crossed with Hackers. Oh yeah, expectations were high when I clicked into this thread.

But then I delved in and discovered that I had found the most pointless thing ever; my first thought was to get onto the Guiness Book of records.

I would mention "Geocaching" to my kids, but I fear that if they repeated it at school they would get picked on

I started doing this last year after a friend tipped me off about it. It's been running for quite some time now and if you have an iphone app, the GPRS makes it very clear of your position in relation to the cache location.......aside from the final search! We actually found one in Spain last year (in fact there were loads around the area where we were staying).

Ford even buried a car before, and there was a whole series of clues around the USA which eventually led to the location.

Even more fun is making your own cache and seeing other peoples pictures online when they find it. Weirdos.

Anyway, can highly recommend for making the dog walks more interesting!

Found a few "boxes" near my shoot, on Bridal paths. Always leave something actually usesful and throw away the crkp. For F's sake, whats the use of a Bon Jovie pic or whoever? Pencil/paper, local coastguard No's(Cliftop topography), twine, whatever I got with me...............to be honest, some of the people..........will say no more

Its a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon if your Shooting permission officer has declined your request. There are loads near me some are too easy to find but others are very much the challenge. You can have some pretty good Indiana Jones moments, building a makeshift bridge to cross a river thats in the way or maybe a rope swing, my kids love it and to be honest so do I.

I bought this subject up with a few of the local shooters in these parts a couple of months ago..

We were finding people trespassing across arable land / upsetting game & stock in order to find these things...

They've now been relocated :yp:

Now hang on Gary you're onto something.

I think you should invent and pioneer the new hobby of "Geocache Relocation".

You don't need a website, map or GPS. You just need a bin liner and a bonfire.

It's still great for the whole family on Sundays because everyone knows that kids would choose "bonfire" over "long walk" everytime

Let me get this right, some of you disagree with kids going round on a treasure hunt doing something which in most cases is totally innocent and harms nothing and no one?

Its a bit of fun that keeps thousands of kids away from their playstations and in the countryside , which I as an advocate for the outdoor life think is a smashing idea.

You should be promoting this sport/hobby/pastime rather than getting all Victor Meldrew about it.

I bet everyone of you on here has googled it and I bet a quid that you will go and see if you can find your nearest one!

try it you just might like it!!
