Some of you may remember a few years ago that there was talk to record how many wood pigeons were shot in this country and where they were shot .

well , I have been privy to a document leaked out of the comman agriculture scheme from that wonderful place known as Brussels . It is a very long and boring paper obviously written by some body who has absolutely no idea about the british country side and what goes on to control pests and vermin .

without boring you all with all the old tosh I will give you the bottom line . The bottom line is they want to control pigeon shooting by issuing pigeon shooting tags . These tags will be issued to pigeon shooters , (now this is the rub ) at £1 each and will be sold on reels of 100 ,you will be pleased to know you will be able to buy as many as you want .

When you shoot a pigeon you will have to peel of a tag from your reel and stick it around the pigeons leg . These tags will all have their own serial number and you will have to log where the bird was shot and the date . There will be blue tags for cock birds and pink tags for hen birds . The blue tags (for cock birds) will have to be put on the right leg of the pigeon and pink tags (for hen birds ) will have to be put on the left leg . You will then be required to cut off the legs of the pigeons and send them off to were ever they want you to send them with a written record of the tag number and were the bird was shot . You will then be able claim back the cost of the tags or elect to have new tags sent to you in place of a cash refund .

This absolutely stupid idea is to be trialed in four counties in England from september 2013 .
