Lamping Elephants!

I like how they justified the killings, rather than just diving into the shooting footage. However, it's really not my bag. I really don't think I could pull the trigger on an elephant, unless it was running straight at me.

That certainly brings a new meaning to "Crop Protection" and "Vermin Control" and obviously has to be done in certain circumstances!

At least the elephant wasn't killed just for the sake of killing, and the meat was used to feed the locals. The video is thoughtfully made and does as much as possible to justify the killing of that particular elephant although some animal rights activists might not see it that way.

Not really my cup of tea, I'll stick to rabbits, they are less likely to charge at you if your shot placement isn't quite spot on!

UK farmers have problems with rabbits and such like, out there it's a whole different ball game.

When the crops are damaged small scale farmers don't eat, the farmer's family's are usually very large, they depend on crops to eat and sell.

Bull elephants in the mating season go bonkers and will think nothing of tramping on people and even chase them with a view to killing them.

The video is good, and just shows how the food chain works....these people don't have access to meat in the daily or even monthly diet.

Just goes to show how lucky we all are

This video got the CEO of this company into a lot of trouble with PETA and people like that

Its only because in our mind we see an elephant as really cute and nice, when its just another herbivore really, which can be killed with a gun just like anyone else. I don't think they should be given any special treatment because of that, the locals have killed them in much worse ways for years!

If I was an elephant I would rather be shot, than stabbed to death by people chasing me, that's for sure!

Stills from that footage were posted in the Sunday Times(?) recently showing the progress of that carcas over a few hours. After a couple of days even the bones had been removed showing nothing at all had been wasted.

Calling an elephant a problem elephant because it moved in on the best food supply in the area is a bit of a euphamism, it got too competive with humans and lost out. Interestingly they claimed the rest of the heard didn't move back into the fields so they had achieved their desired objective by destroying one animal. They don't say if they had tried any other methods of driving them away but I bet they probably had.

The comment saying that customers would leave GoDaddy in droves is a bit dumb. If Americam customers saw beef cattle going to slaughter in the US's highly mechanised slaughter houses they might think a bit more about where their own meat came from.

In countries where they don't/can't shoot elephants like in Kenya they've destroyed the habitat in many of the big safari parks. The tourists think that's Africa but deserts are not Africa. Man has interfered with nature and unless he continues to manage the animals they will destroy their own living spaces.

Blame b***** Walt Disney for those who don't/won't see it.

The BBC are a pain in the **** with the anthropomorphisation of animals on series such as meerkat manor it gives the public an idea that animals have human qualities and values ,THEY DO NOT !!!!

If a fox is taking lambs or birds then yes its fair game and if an elephant is destroying crops and peoples resources then yes it,s fair game size or country doesn't even enter into it and the carcass was used by the whole community which is more than can be said for fox shooting and ratting in this country.

I am all for documentaries on animals on the BBC but giving them names and making out that they see things in the same ways as humans is in my opinion misleading and irresponsible.

Rant over :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
